Summary

Susie Kearley embarks on a dog photography shoot in local parks to capture images of dogs with various expressions for her blog, prompted by the risks associated with using other people's photographs.

Abstract

In response to the potential legal pitfalls of using unverified images from the internet, Susie Kearley takes the initiative to create her own collection of dog photographs. She visits her local parks with the intent of capturing canines displaying a range of emotions, from anger to enthusiasm. Despite some dogs initially reacting with hostility, she manages to take a variety of pictures, including those of a blind dog named George. The photo shoot yields about 20 usable photographs for her blogs, and she also snaps pictures of building works and signs for potential future use. Kearley reflects on her experience, considering herself fortunate for the positive interactions with normally bark-prone dogs, and concludes that the shoot was a success.

Opinions

  • Kearley perceives the risk in using other people's photographs without assurance of their safety, leading to her decision to take her own photos.
  • She encounters a mix of reactions from dogs, ranging from anger to friendliness, and considers some of the angry reactions as a desire to harm her.
  • Kearley expresses empathy for George, the blind dog, describing him as bewildered.
  • She feels privileged when a usually aggressive dog shows her affection.
  • The author uses humor to describe the dogs' reactions, downplaying the potential threat posed by the angry dogs.
  • Kearley is satisfied with the outcome of the photo shoot, deeming it a reasonable success and a practical solution to her blog's photographic needs.

A Dog Photo Shoot: From Cuddly Bundles of Fun to Killers!

Here are my shots

Since realising there is no risk-free option when using other people’s photographs, I decided to create my own photographic collection to use on my blogs.

I’ve often used photos of cats and dogs on here, to show happy, sad, bored, or annoyed expressions. So yesterday, I went on a dog photo shoot around my local parks, to get pictures of dogs sporting different expressions.

I’m not sure the expressions were that great to be honest, but I got some nice dog pics!

Angry dogs

The first dogs I met were barking angrily as I tried to photograph them. Fortunately they were on leads. I’m not sure what I’d done to upset them, but they were definitely cross and gave the distinct impression that they wanted to kill me.

This dog didn’t like me very much…

Nor did his friend…

That’s an effect by the way — he didn’t actually have red eyes.

Blind dog

Then I met a blind dog, who I think was just bewildered, poor mite. His name is George and he lives in the house opposite mine.

Enthusiastic dogs!

As I walked down the street, I met this little fella who was incredibly keen to say hello, in a good way! He seemed to like me. Apparently that’s unusual — he normally barks, so I consider myself blessed!

Nonchalant dogs

Finally, I met some dogs who thought I was a bit odd. Which is fair enough. They’re probably right.

The photo shoot was a reasonable success. I did come back with about 20 photographs to use in my blogs. I took a few of the building works and signs while I was there… just in case I write about related topics.
