He runs to her

Smothers

She backs away

He shuffles nearer

She recoils

A dance of distance

Needy is ugly

Man

Stand your ground

Think you know her

No being has ever

Her counsel her own

No one-sided want

required

Restrictive expectations

from his era

Insulting suggestions

to this free spirit

Sit with her in silence

Listen

to the unsaid, observe

Give her what she desires

She’ll give you her

heart, time, attention
