A Simple Chakra Meditation to Realize your Higher Self
[Updated Oct 22, 2020] You are more than your body, your mind, your emotions, and your ego.

YOU are more than your individual ego self. You are the physical manifestation your Higher Self / All That Is / God / Source / Atma / Soul / The I Am (Presence).
This simple and highly flexible meditation helps you to bring your Higher Self more directly into your physical awareness and experience.
THE seven body Chakras and their commonly associated colors are shown in this image. Their locations and representations or energies are described in more detail at the bottom of this page.

For this meditation, you can take any position, even laying down, for this meditation. Rest more comfortably for a relaxing meditation, or sit or stand in a rigid manner for an invigorating experience. This is an active meditation, and as such, it is not as relaxing as some other forms of meditation.
Close your eyes completely or to about 90%, if that works better for you. You can also do this meditation with eyes open, but it is not recommended to start that way.
Breathe naturally and comfortably through your nose throughout the instructions below. You may breathe through your mouth if your nose is obstructed.
As you Breathe In to each Chakra, feel your breath (prana energy) moving from your nose through your body to that Chakra. As you Breathe Out, the prana breath energy moves from that Chakra through your body and out your nose.
The affirmations can either be spoken out loud or said silently in your mind.
— — — — — — —
Breathe In to your Root (lowest) Chakra — say: I am Safe and Grounded Breathe Out from your Root Chakra — say: All is Safe and Grounded
Breathe In to your Sacral Chakra — say: I Create my Reality Breathe Out from your Sacral Chakra — say: All is My Creation
Breathe In to your Solar Plexus Chakra — say: I am My True Self Breathe Out from your Solar Plexus Chakra — say: All is My True Self
Breathe In to your Heart Chakra — say: I am Love (or Bliss) Breathe Out from your Heart Chakra — say: All is Love
Breathe In to your Throat Chakra — say: I Speak to the World Breathe Out from your Throat Chakra — say: The World Speaks to Me
Breathe In to your Third Eye Chakra (center of the head) — say: I See Truth Breathe Out from your Third Eye Chakra — say: All is Truth
Breathe In to your Crown Chakra — say: I am My Higher Self (or God, or All That Is, or Source, or My Soul, or Atman, or the Guru, or the I Am Presence, or something similar) Breathe Out from your Crown Chakra — say: All is My Higher Self
Breathe In to your Whole Body — say: I am One (or Radiant, or Fulfilled, or Perfect, or something else) Breathe Out from your Whole Body— say: All is One
Relax and feel: your Chakras, then your Body, then your Mind, then your Energy Field (the space surrounding your body and mind), and then the World.
Variations
- Breathe In and Out with the affirmations several times at each Chakra before moving to the next.
- Do the entire meditation, for 2 to 20 minutes, focused on only one Chakra. Do the next Chakra the following day or meditation.
- Change the affirmations to ones that align more with what you have learned from elsewhere (see the Chakra information below) or, even better, based on what you personally feel in each Chakra. For each, however, breathe into yourself, and breathe out expanding into the world.
- Breathe more deeply and hold/suspend your breath form a moment or more at the top and bottom of each cycle.
- Do the meditation with your eyes open. I will sometimes look at a tree, imagining the bottom of the trunk to be connected with my Root Chakra and the top of the tree to be associated with my Crown Chakra.
- Do the breathing into and out from each Chakra without the affirmations.
- Instead of the seven individual chakras, do a three part breathing, breathing first into the lower two chakra region, then into the middle chakra region (centered on the heart), and finally breathing into the top two chakras region; affirmations are optional with this method.
- Expand to include the Chakra above your crown, sometimes called the Soul Star Chakra, and the one below your root, sometimes called the Earth Star Chakra and connected to the bottom of your feet by a chord. Create your own affirmations for these. The Earth Chakra might be: “I am Mother Earth; All is Mother Earth”. The Soul Chakra might just be a golden white light without any words.
- Do the meditation with yoga style Nadi Shodhana Pranayama (alternate nostril breathing) instead of regular breathing.
- Try doing the meditation standing and allowing the prana and kundalini energy to move your body as they flow from each Chakra up and down your body.
- Simply use “I am Love; All is Love” for all of the Chakras. Love is the universal primordial energy that underlies all creation and will, therefore, bring anything to a higher vibration.
