A Brilliant Mind, Par Excellence Intellectual with a Beautiful Heart
Dancing Elephants Press weekly prompt 35 of 52

Out of the many gems I hold close to my heart are those who have profoundly influenced me. Three things impress me the most about a person-their vibrant personality, trendsetters in style and elegance, and mastery in multiple languages. These three traits make an individual stand out in the crowd, no matter where they are and what age bracket or economic status they belong.
Outstanding individuals with all these three traits are remarkable beings who unknowingly inspire others. Many of us make our peers follow the lead by accomplishing incredible success in careers, accolades, and relationships.
Few have the charisma to remain relevant through generations by being ahead of their times in their deeds, intellect, and superb perseverance.
Life has been kind to me by providing opportunities to be nurtured by loving parents, cared for by a supportive family, and taught by some of the best teachers. Life experiences have given me tremendous life lessons through unimaginable sources through good and bad times.
Besides my mom, my cousin is in the curated treasure trove of extraordinary people. She is my role model in every sense of the term. She has a brilliant mind, an immaculate style, a star academician, and speaks four languages. Not only that, but she also exudes charm, eloquence, and sophistication without even trying. Most genuine and dedicated intellectual I’ve seen.
Although she is older than me, I have been close to her since I was a teenager, hanging around her like a besotted fan. When I started my post-graduate program, I could join in the captivating intellectual and philosophical discourse she advocated through her research.
When no one took my opinions seriously, she did; when no one thought of me as an intellectual, she did; when no one trusted my critique of the system, she did. In her, I found the most generous support in everything I did, and she always complimented me in front of the extended family to boost my morale.
Maybe, she’s unaware of how deeply she has influenced me and how much I love and respect her. A quote summarizes my thoughts perfectly:
“To love is to admire with the heart; to admire is to love with the mind.” Theophile Gautier
Fun fact, faculty members and graduate students (male and female) thought I was cool because I was related to her.
She is still the favourite person of the next generation. My children, nieces and nephews love and admire her as much as we do, if not more. Everyone gravitates toward her if she’s coming to the family reunions, and the discussions are always stimulating, thought-provoking, and humorous.
Prof. Azardmi Dukht Safavi* is a par excellence scholar who published books in English and Persian, won many prestigious awards nationally and internationally, the most recent one is the Tagore Scholarship, and travelled extensively for presentations and lectures.
Her most endearing quality is that she always has time for family in her home and heart, and I should mention that her husband, Prof Mehdi Abbas, is the sweetest person on planet Earth. Both of them make an excellent team as intellectuals, influencers, and as a couple making us very proud of them.
