Drew Barrymore has become a source of joy to many men and women. She is also very social media savvy.

From her Instagram video that hyped up her friend Britney Spears's comeback duet with Elton John, Hold Me Closer to her TikTok video where she was frolicking in the rain for which she was called out by a ‘Negative Nancy’ because she believes (nobody actually shares her opinion) only black creators can/should upload their ‘frolicking in the rain’ videos on TikTok.

Who wouldn’t know Drew Barrymore when she literally grew up in front of our very own eyes? From being the adorable Gertie in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster movie E. T. to one of Charlie’s Angels, today she is the host of her own talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show.

And like many of us, she too struggled with her weight.

What I would like to emphasize is to lower your expectations when you try to follow what worked for them, especially since we don’t know if everything, they revealed in public is all there is as to how they lost weight.

In an exclusive interview with InStyle in 2020, she had this to say about her weight loss.

InStyle: How are you taking care of yourself personally?

DB: I eat really clean and healthy, and I do an hour of Pilates at least four days a week. I have to work so hard at not being the size of a bus. And it’s OK. That is just my journey. That is my karma. I don’t know, maybe I was thin and mean in a past life.

Drew Barrymore in some of her interviews follows the diet plan of a well-known plant-based diet influencer and author Kimberly Snyder.

Her book Recipes for Your Perfectly Imperfect Life is where people like Drew get their recipes, but Drew Barrymore also added that she ‘tweaked’ her diet to include some protein, usually chicken and fish to make her a semi-vegetarian or someone who follows the Flexitarian Diet.

The Flexitarian Diet is an eating style that emphasizes plant-based foods while allowing meat and other animal products in moderation. It is more adaptable than a completely vegetarian or vegan diet.

What foods do flexitarians eat? Flexitarians emphasize plant proteins and other whole, minimally processed plant foods while limiting animal products.

Foods to eat regularly include:

Proteins: soybeans, tofu, tempeh, legumes, lentils

Non-starchy vegetables: greens, bell peppers, Brussels sprouts, green beans, carrots, cauliflower

Starchy vegetables: winter squash, peas, corn, sweet potato

Fruits: apples, oranges, berries, grapes, cherries

Whole grains: quinoa, teff, buckwheat, farro

Nuts, seeds, and other healthy fats: almonds, flaxseed, chia seeds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, peanut butter, avocados, olives, coconut

Final words

Drew Barrymore started doing movies at the young age of six, she could easily end up like the other child actors, a has-been even before they hit puberty. But Drew Barrymore had more to offer that in 2022, she had become a popular talk show host.

She herself admitted that she had issues with alcohol and that she had to work hard to be sober, she also had gone through some bad breakups, bad marriages, and bad divorces and yet she also had the resolve to fight and win over her demons.

In that way, Drew Barrymore is like us, things happen in our lives and sometimes it is easy to take comfort in food or alcohol.

She lost all of 20 pounds, but her weight loss journey is a continuing process like many of us, weight gain can be brought upon by genetics, lifestyle, stress, or lack of sleep.

What is important is one has to love oneself, that weight loss is only a part of who you are or what your body is, and that you are not doing it for someone else but for yourself, especially for your health.

In an interview Drew Barrymore is being real, when she said she craves food, especially pizza, All I did was cry and dream about pizza. I am still dreaming and crying about pizza.”

And if she has a slice, it isn’t a sign of weakness and she goes on with her day doing what worked for her to lose weight, ‘diet and exercise.’
