9 Silly and Unsubstantiated Money Stories Told to Keep You, Poor
And you won’t believe who is spinning these tall tales…

Unfortunately, there are those in our society who are very uncomfortable with money. Money brings out their worst insecurities and makes them feel inferior. The very money they could use to support their families and broaden opportunities for their communities.
Some of this foolishness can be associated with generations upon generations of stupid money stories being passed down by those too ignorant and too prideful to admit, they don’t know how to create wealth and abundance.
Yes, stupid money stories have been told by those who are not wealthy and affluent. These stories are told to create feelings of shame or guilt, but if you pay attention, only one of these stories comes from the mouths of wealthy people. Here is a list of 9 Silly Money Stories that will keep you poor!
1. Rich People Have All the Money and They Are Still Unhappy
The violin plays…
Oh, the poor rich guy or gal has no friends. They have yachts, vacation homes all over the world, eat the most delicious cuisines prepared by world-renowned chefs, and memberships to the most extravagant clubs.
It is a shame how their money makes them so sad, and no one loves them.
The violin stops…
Money has never made a rich person sad. Perhaps, other things are making them sad. Some rich people are very happy. If you are unhappy, it may not be because of money. There are many reasons people can feel unhappy that have nothing to do with money!
2. Wealthy People are Wealthy Because they Belong to Secret Societies
Int. Scene: Rich white boys dressed in “Dark Academia” fashion walk into a room full of skull heads. An altar with candles lit and a young maiden dressed in white and bound sits in the middle of the room.
All wealthy people acquire their money through blood sacrifices. They have money because they are members of a secret society that sacrifices virgins and drinks their blood so they can be powerful and rule over the poors.
That’s why there is an eye on the back of the dollar bill.
Blow out the candles, please.
Not every wealthy person is a member of a secret society. It most certainly isn’t how they acquire money. Now, hold on to your tinfoil hat. Many wealthy people have access to social clubs, summits, and seminars they pay for after they acquire wealth and money. Some are called mastermind groups and yes, it is all about ruling the world.
People may have told you that someone is wealthy because they did belong to a secret society. However, this isn’t always true! Many people become rich through focused work, good sound investments, skill, talent, and education (formal or informal).
3. Money is the Root of All Evil and Rich People are Hellbound
Hand clapping and feet stomping, the rafters on the old church are shaking because the Deacons and Deaconess are singing hymns: “Ol’ Satan we’re gonna tear your kingdom down. Ol’ Satan we’re gonna tear your kingdom down.”
The Pastor says: “That’s why it isn’t good to be rich because you will start to believe in yourself. Some of yall get too happy and forget to pray. So, Sister Jackson will be taking up your tithes and offerings. We do take Cashapp and there is an ATM in the foyer.”
And we still haven’t finished paying the building fund?
I grew up as a Missionary Baptist. The faith taught us all rich people were hellbound. And they backed up this broken philosophy with numerous scriptures that never confirmed this belief.
While I do not believe in the concept of Hell, if there was a hell, I can think of a few not-so-rich people who would easily qualify for a membership to the Hot Place.
4. Save All Your Money, Because Rich People Don’t Spend Money
You can hear the wind rustling outside…
The rich old miserly man sits in his cave with his stacks of money. He forages the forest for berries and nuts because he refuses to buy food. His clothes are from old torn pieces he found in the trash behind a clothing factory.
The Wind stops as “Let the Sunshine In” is now playing…
This is another stupid money story that has been passed down for generations. Not only is this one stupid, but it’s also a lie. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, we all spend money. Not all rich people are misers and not all misers are rich people.
5. Wealthy People Say Affirmations Daily and Are Friends with the Dalai Lama
Eye of the Tiger plays in the background followed by T-Pains All I Do is Win.
“I am a winner,” he shouts standing in front of a steamed mirror wrapped in a dark blue bath towel. “I am great. I am successful.”
The music comes to a screeching halt.
Yep, I’m about to piss off some self-improvement folks with this one. The truth is that some wealthy people say affirmations and some don’t.
Creating your affirmations is powerful. Saying affirmations can help you affirm your goals, desires, dreams in life. Affirmations will help you overcome an unproductive or destructive mindset.
Building affirmations and speaking them daily will allow you to improve your health, change your worldview, and feel happier and more empowered. Self-Empowerment can lead to wealth, but it won’t alter your money situation if there isn’t a plan to take inspired action — inspired action that will increase and maximize cash flow and financial freedom.
6. Wealthy people get up at 5 AM
Everything is Everything by Lauren Hill is playing…
She’s up and she’s going with a 16 oz. green smoothie from the Juice Bar (okay I do this one but more like 7 AM) with Everything is Everything by Lauren Hill playing on her EarPods (oh, yes, we’ve already established this), she’s that girl because she knows it’s the early bird who catches the worm.
Still, no one told her the second mouse gets the cheese.
Can we have a moment of silence for the first mouse?
Not all wealthy people are morning people, and not all wealthy people get up early. Some wealthy people stay up late and get up late. The time they wake up is a personal choice. Some wealthy people burn the midnight oil and still get up early. I know a wealthy songwriter who gets up at 2 pm every day.
Yes, the Stupidity Continues (Numbers 7–9)
And there are a few more money stories that are just…well, stupid.
- Wealthy people have money because they are lucky. They were born under a waxing moon with Scorpio is Taurus and Capricorn is in their fourth house. There is no luck involved in becoming wealthy, and the truth is that most wealthy people develop a plan to make money and executed their plan to become wealthy.
- Rich people have money because of inheritances or winnings from lotteries. This idea can lead you to believe when you become rich it will be by chance. But even if you were to win the lottery, this would not make you wealthy if you did not learn how to increase and grow your money or invest your money well. Haven’t you heard real-life stories about people losing their inheritance or blowing hundreds of millions of dollars in lottery winnings?
- Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems. Okay, this one came from a rich rapper — P. Diddy (Diddy, Puffy, Puff — whatever his name is now). It makes a great rap song, but money has solved more problems than it has caused. Perhaps the rich are saying “I got 99 problems but money ain’t one.”
These Stories Were Created to Keep you Poor While You Feel Superior About It
These are just a few ridiculously stupid money stories that have been specifically designed to keep you poor, keep you lusting money, and keep you feeling like a financial underdog.
Come on, it feels good to drag on wealthy people. You feel superior.
Of course, you’re the better person, look how much harder you work for less money. Stories like these may make you feel better. Sadly, these same stupid stories have caused poverty and unrealized dreams.
Poverty Can Be Generational — Break the Cycle
And well, poverty doesn’t always stop with you. It can carry on for many generations until someone changes their mindset, changes their money story, and decides…
“Life is bountiful and beautiful and abundant. I choose wealth, abundance, and prosperity because I can add to the beauty of my life with more money. I enjoy money and it is easy for me to attract it in abundance.
I don’t have to be perfect to have plenty of money, nor do I have to be altruistic. I have an enterprising mind and I can create and grow money with ease. I lack for nothing. I live a joyfully affluent life.
If anyone feels uncomfortable, angry, or wishes me ill-will because of my wealth, that’s her or his problem to deal with — it does not affect my world.” — Words of the Author (Carmellita)
And yes, I have an inspired plan of action I execute every day.
