9 Self-Improvement Exercises To Transform Your Life
Find out how 9 simple self-improvement exercises can help you transform your life easily.
What I’d like to transmit to you through this article is the idea of the impellent necessity we all have to build a continuous, constant movement towards improvement to thrive in our lives. Some know it as “Kaizen”.
I’ve identified 3 areas to start with. The exercises suggested within relate to my personal choices and experiences. You can use them, as they are, or, hopefully, get inspired to find yours.
Mental care
Avoid resentment
Resentment, like other toxic emotions, will drain you of your positive energy.
Awareness about negative emotions has certainly increased lately. We know what they are, don’t we?
But what about not being completely dominated by them?
I’m sure you could give me plenty of examples of people affected by negative emotions.
It’s the interest of the collectivity, not only of ourselves, to get rid of them and transform them into positive emotions or at least don’t affect others because of them.
Starting from the relationship with your neighbors to which are your political preferences, resentment won’t help you solve anything.
Improve your abilities to dialogue, elevate moods to a good positive vibe, and help others find a neutral ground for exchanging opinions.
Whenever resentment shows up in your life, you can observe it, recognize it, feel it, and let it go. No need to act or behave when it’s dominating you. You can make a step behind and do anything better by getting rid of it.
Be good to yourself
Learning to have a good attitude towards yourself is very important. Life is good and the Universe will cooperate with you for your evolution if you allow it.
Being good means that you have to find ways of taking care of your basic needs, the physical, mental, and spiritual ones, without stressing you in the process.
Depending on your education, social background, and actual conditions of life, you may need a personal advanced skill to cope with difficulties.
Being good to yourself can help you find this skill.
In my case, it’s humor, specifically self-humor. It helps me go over my evident limits as a human being on the constant way of self-improvement.
Which is your way of being good to yourself? Do you take care of your growth mindset?
Laugh
Laughing is a nice and scientifically proven tool to take care of your mental state.
Releasing endorphins allow for lowering the effects of any stressful reactions while preparing you to deal with the real problem through a more positive and relaxed attitude.
I suggest you put funny books on your agenda, or, in case you don’t know it already, go frequently to the publication The Pub and read some articles there. Do it, repeat it, and then go back to cope with your daily problems. You’ll thank me later on.
Help others
By helping others and showing empathy you can gain enormous well-being for free.
Of course, I won’t suggest you help others to get a personal benefit. That would be selfish and contrary to the idea of helping.
But anybody can guarantee you that taking care of other people’s needs will help you fix some of your problems and will let you feel better, just for the good actions you’ve made for them.
We can help build a better world, one good action at a time.
Spiritual growth
Meditation
I won’t get tired to repeat how beneficial meditation is for us.
Setting aside 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes after your daily activities to meditate is a good way to feel better on many levels. Actually, it’s the best time investment you could make.
Knowing how to attain the center of pure energy residing inside ourselves can help us maintain a good balance between all elements in our lives.
Practice gratitude
Gratitude is an underrated habit.
Many talk about it, but not so many practice it.
Being grateful means seeing the opportunity of life unfolding for you.
Focusing on what you have, and being grateful for it, helps you gain strength in growing and earning what you have not.
If you like and appreciate what you have, the Universe will cooperate with you by giving also more of it.
I wasn’t always able to be grateful for what I had. I used to complain a lot about what I hadn’t. It took me a while to change this attitude.
An exercise I started practicing to grow my gratitude habit was to write down 100 things for which I was happy or grateful in my life; things or objects that I had or facts occurring.
I regularly revised it and read it, until I could feel it spontaneously during my day without the need of reminding it to me.
Body maintenance
Schedule an annual checkup
Maybe you feel healthy and you have a good daily routine. Just make sure you go and do a checkup, especially when going over 40 or 50.
An annual general control of your health can help you prevent aging issues you may be underrating.
Introduce a fitness routine
If you don’t have one already, it’s good for you to fix a daily fitness routine.
You don’t need to do much at the beginning. I’m the lazy type and I know what I’m talking about.
Setting the intention to take care of your body is the first step.
Second, you decide what you can do without much effort. For example, if you always use your car to move from one place to the other, you could find a parking a bit far from the place you need to go and get there on a walk.
Third, you implement your step by committing a bit more to walking longer distances and on weekends.
It’s just an example. You can fix your healthy routine by starting with the simplest thing you can do and introducing something more from there on.
Go green
Green is not only fashionable. It is a habit that can prevent you concretely from having health issues in the long term.
As for any change, you can introduce it without being drastic.
For example, you can add fruit to your breakfast, if you don’t eat any. Or you can try a rich salad for lunch instead of what you usually eat, twice a week, making it an appointment with yourself, for your self-care.
Fruit and vegetables are important for our diet, and we often don’t consume the correct quantity needed by our bodies to stay healthy.
The amount of vitamins introduced through greens is invaluable and worthwhile before getting to medicaments or chemicals. Think about it.
Conclusion
Self-improvement is within your reach.
You can start with small little steps and decide on some exercises you can easily introduce into your daily habits.
In the long term, they will build up and create greater changes without you even noticing it.
Go on and start introducing your new exercises now!
