9 Micro-Habits That Will Completely Change Your Life in A Year
Success comes down to the habits you do on a daily basis.
The quality of your life is determined by the things you do on a daily basis.
If you want to improve your life, you need to upgrade your daily habits and routines.
Here are 9 micro-habits that will help you change your life by this time next year.
1. Drink a Big Glass of Water as Soon as You Wake Up
Hydration is crucial. Don’t start your day dehydrated.
The first thing you should do after waking up is drink a large glass of water. Aim for 16 ounces.
For added hydration benefits, add some sea salt or pink Himalayan salt for extra electrolytes.
2. Take at Least 8000 Steps Every Single Day
Humans were built to walk a lot.
If we want to be healthy, we need to emulate the lifestyle of our ancestors. While 8000 is an arbitrary number, it’s a good number to aim for.
You won’t hit it every day, but having a goal means you’re going to be more intentional about your movement.
3. Lift Heavy Things
Humans were also built to lift heavy things regularly.
Try to load your muscles 3 times per week. It’ll help you burn fat and live longer.
This can be with free weights (barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells), machines at the gym, resistance bands, or even your own body weight.
4. Meditate. Every Day
Sit down and pay attention to your breath for a few minutes each day.
Meditation will give you the tools you need to deal with anything life might throw your way.
5. Get 10 Minutes of Morning Light Exposure
Morning light is arguably the most important circadian cue.
Bright light in the morning signals to your body that it’s time to be awake, and subsequently gets all other processes controlled by the circadian rhythm into motion for the day ahead. It also helps to optimize your circadian rhythm for the evening, meaning you’ll improve your sleep quality as well.
When you wake up, aim to get as much light as possible. Open your curtains, get outside or sit by a window, or turn on some bright overhead lights if the sun isn’t up yet.
6. Drink Coffee
Coffee is a simple (and enjoyable) way to improve your health.
There are countless studies outlining how coffee improves our health — everything from increased fat loss to cancer prevention.
Coffee is full of antioxidants and other molecules with benefits for nearly every aspect of your health. Having a cup or two of coffee each day is a great way to stay on the right side of average.
7. Avoid Snacks
We need to give our digestive systems breaks throughout the day.
It’s also really hard for our bodies to burn fat if there’s a constant influx of food.
Try to go at least 3 hours between meals with no food.
8. Wake Up at the Same Time, Every Day
This is the best way to improve your sleep quality.
And sleep is one of the fundamentals of good health.
Figure out what time you need to get up on work days and set your alarm for this time every single day. Even weekends!
Our bodies like things to be kept the same. Your circadian rhythm doesn’t know that it’s the weekend.
9. Touch the Earth, Every Day
This is a process known as grounding or earthing.
Grounding is the practice of reconnecting with the Earth, and more specifically, the Earth’s magnetic field.
This is something we have lost in the last millennium or so, with the shoes on our feet and the floor beneath our feet preventing us from connecting with the Earth on a regular basis.
