Today’s livelihood is tough. A second or even third source of income is a must. We needed to keep up with the changes in order to survive. Let’s take a look at the 9 trending businesses now in the Philippines. Perhaps we can get some ideas that you may be able to apply in your country.

1. Online Food Selling

Even if we are all in lockdowns and community quarantines, you can never deny the Filipino’s love for food. We just love to eat! Food is easy to market and that is a fact. Aside from Food Panda, Grab Food, and other restaurants, small food business owners are taking over the market today. You can find almost all your favorite food online; from the simple fish ball, short orders, to cakes in a tub. There’s this group created on Facebook by people from my neighborhood for this sort of thing.

The said group is where people post their goods and charge minimal delivery fees depending on the street or block you are located within the neighboring area. Street food is one of the best sellers because people long for those times where you can just buy it from a local vendor on the street. Big catering businesses also started with just pack lunches. Who knows? Your business might be the next big thing!

Lechon Belly and Food Bilao

Since big gatherings are not allowed, only a small group of people can be present at a party. Most families celebrating birthdays and other occasions only invite close relatives or people already residing with them. Lechon belly and food bilao packages are a hit because you can have your favorite Lechon along with other viands in a “bilao” package for a group of 10 to 15 people. Bilao is a flat round-shaped winnowing basket or tray for removing rice chaff. The prices of course vary depending on the weight of the Lechon. You can enjoy lechon, as well as your favorite kinilaw, pork barbeque, fried chicken, seafood and even, add desserts like Maja and Leche flan.

2. Party Balloons and Surprises

Flower bouquets with balloon and chocolate arrangements are still flourishing. However, there are lots of competitions nowadays. Given that parties and gatherings are discouraged, others choose not to celebrate. Hence, why not brighten your loved one’s special day with a Bobo balloon together with a box or bouquet of her favorite chocolates? Themed balloon arrangements are also very popular, especially for kids. Receiving balloon designs with your favorite characters from Minecraft, Lego, Peppa Pig and more brings so much joy. There are also affordable car trunk surprises. The packages and prices vary depending on your preference and need. Sending simple surprises to your loved ones on a special occasion shows how much we care for them in spite of the restrictions because of covid.

3. Milk Tea Shops from your home

This business boomed last 2018 and some thought that it will not last when the pandemic started. However, cold beverage drinks just like milk tea shops have been popping up almost every month in different locations. The craze is still all over town. We even have 2 milk tea shops here in our subdivision. You can spoil yourself and choose from many flavors like red velvet, Hokkaido, taro, dark chocolate, and a whole lot more to satisfy your cravings. Price starts at 35 pesos for 12’oz. Cold beverage drinks are in demand especially since it’s summer now in the Philippines. People are still hooked on the refreshing, sweet yet affordable drink.

4. Home Service Saloons and Massage

Very common that we ask a masseuse to visit our home for a body massage. Today, not only massage we request but also hair cutting. Many countries still lockdown and if you are good at haircutting and have experience in working with SPA centers before, this can be a good sideline for you.

5. Errands or Delivery Services

These delivery services are most beneficial not just for riders but also for clients. Not all establishments and small businesses have their own delivery service. That is why they partner with other companies to be able to cater to the needs of their growing clientele located in different locations. Most of the riders are those who lost their jobs when the pandemic started. These services are not only limited to motorcycles. Some use bicycles to accomplish the task. They help you transport your essentials safely. They offer different types of services such as errands,( pabili, pakuha, pasugo), and pick up as well.

6. Accept Bills Payment from Your Home

Paying your water and electric bills is easier now than in the first half of last year. Last year, we had to endure long lines when paying water and electric bills since not everyone had payment apps on their phones and not everyone knew how to do it. These days, the public has been more receptive to the changes, and local stores, as well as small business establishments, now accept online payments for utility bills, landlines, and post-paid plans. You can send money and buy a prepaid load as well. In addition, they accept monthly contributions for SSS, Pag-ibig, Phil Health as well as payments for DFA, NSO, and NBI. These payment centers helped us save more time and make payments faster and more accessible.

7. Online Tutors

Even if the majority of the population are at home, working and busy parents struggle with teaching and assisting their children with school work. To compensate and help their children, they hire tutors and enroll them in supplementary classes. Most parents enroll their children in Reading and Math programs. A friend that works as a sales associate said that even though her salary isn’t that high, she desperately needed someone to guide her children with their modules. She really can’t assist them since she works until 7 in the evening and by the time she gets home both she and the children are tired.

8. Indoor Plant Business

Since the pandemic started and the “plantdemic” craze began, plant businesses also flourished. Plant prices soared and the demand for indoor plants grew. People started gardening as well as growing their own vegetables and herbs to pass the time. The demand for gardening and planting supplies such as flower pots and soil also increased. Plant racks and stands are popular as well.

Basic plant maintenance for indoor plants requires no formal training. This might be the reason that more people are motivated to spruce up their homes with indoor plants. Before the pandemic, many people view having indoor plants as a luxury but things have changed. Plants are aesthetically pleasing and have a lasting positive influence on your mental and physical well-being. With indoor plants as a business, you can earn and enjoy monetary benefits while still pursuing your hobby.

9. Computer Repair and Other Maintenance Services

Staying, working as well as studying at home also means that we make use of our gadgets and appliances most of the time. Computers along with tablets that children, students, and adults use for homeschooling and online jobs need maintenance from time to time. A little knowledge about troubleshooting will surely help. However, not all households have someone who knows a thing or two about computers. Knowledge and expertise about these things are now in demand. Virus removal, file recovery, system restoration, hardware, and software installation are the usual concerns. Home appliances such as electric fans are also one of the most repaired items these days. Since it’s the summer season in the Philippines, people utilize their fans almost 24/7.
