8 Treasures That Will Make Your Children Successful In Life
Life would be shallow without them.
The children are great. They have a huge passion for learning and never stop asking. Like all other humans of all ages, they need direction, and the best thing we parents can help them with is to coach and mentor them. How do you coach and mentor your children? If you were to share a list of key things that will make them successful in life, what would the list look like?
Like most fathers, I also have a list of things I share with my children. They are pieces of advice stemming from my lessons-learned in life both in good and hard ways.
The sensitive point is to avoid influencing them to do the things we could not achieve in life. Instead, the best approach would be to help them learn the world, living an ethical life, and the critical life skills to be successful and to realize.
The other watch-out is to prevent them from making mistakes. How nice it would be for us to learn something and avoid mistakes and failures. That is not possible because mistakes and failures are there to help us learn. Even though it is possible to learn by observing others, that will be rare.
Let`s go back to my list. Here are the 8 pieces of advice I share with my children frequently. I call them treasures because they are more valuable than any other physical assets that will fade away in life.
It is a call to the children.
1. Put the family ahead of everything.
It is a V.U.C.A. world around you. Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity drive the world. You are a tree swinging from one direction to the other. The only thing that keeps you grounded is your roots. Know your roots well, and love them. Your roots are your core family. Never ever leave them or put them behind. There will be times of great success in your life, and even then, make sure you have a work and life balance. When the moments of success fade away or if you fall down the peak, you will witness that the bees attracted to your light would immediately disappear to find another source of light. The ones who made you promises will run away when they are done with you. It is your family to stay with you when the others leave.
2. Surround yourself with a good network of good, honest, fair, and kind people.
Many people will appear suddenly in your life like small flares and will depart faster then they appeared. A small number of people will always be with you. You will call them friends, but even long friendships can fade away through life’s harsh tests. Only a few friends will stay with you no matter what happens to you. They are the ones who are with you at all times because of your heart. They are a part of your family. Know them well and be the first one to celebrate and mourn with them.
The biggest investment in life is a vast network of good, honest, righteous, fair, and kind people with hearts in the right place.
3. Love unconditionally.
Life without love is like a body without spirit. You live like a robot unless you live with love. Love is mostly conditional, meaning it is with expectation. The Social Exchange of Needs Theory in psychology says that people come together to meet their mutual needs. It is hard to accept, I know.
It is enough to step back and observe the quality of relationships around you. Can you see the pragmatism in this world of speed, pleasure, and consumption?
People approach each other if there is something valuable they need. Do not judge anyone; just see the game and accept them as they are. Love them. Love is the only way to awaken people from their illusions and accept evil in life. Don`t live a life without love as it will drain your life energy.
Love unconditionally. Nobody loses anything when they love without any expectations. Love more to live better.
4. Dream, dream, and dream…
Never ever stop dreaming. Dreams are the gateway to your life mission. You are born in this world for a specific purpose you have chosen. Find that grand theme. Remember the higher purpose you are born to be. Follow your dreams. They will lead you. Once you find your dream, make it your daily job — then every day will be a holiday for you, and every Monday will be a Friday.
All the changes in the world started with a dream. It was the dreamers who changed the world while the majority of people followed the dreamers. Be a wild dreamer. Do not compare yourself with the followers.
5. Have an unshakeable faith
In life, there is both good and evil, success and failure, gains, and losses. It will be hard to move forward when you fall, and you will need to rely on your internal resources to continue. You have everything you need inside you, all the resources. Just work and keep believing in yourself.
The other part of faith is your unshakable belief in divine justice. It always works perfectly, but now the way you want it to be. It works to meet your spiritual needs your mind is mostly unaware of. Both good and evil are different disguises of the same thing. They both serve for your good. That is had to believe in, especially when you are suffering, but you will see that anything that you named evil has made you stronger in the past. The antagonists around you are only there to hold you a mirror to help you awaken to a better version of yourself. Love your antagonists.
6. Freedom of mind
Set your mind free from all obsessions, attachments, illusions, ignorance, dogmas, bigotry, superstition, and false beliefs. The mother of freedoms is the freedom of the mind. You cannot be really free without it.
7. Self-awareness
You are living on Earth to learn from different experiences in line with your destiny. Learning creates self-awareness, but self-awareness is like short-term memory. It is about learning and knowing. In order to achieve permanent transformation, you need to put your learnings into practice. The change starts with self-awareness. Follow the advice of Socrates — know thyself.
8. Purpose
Find your life purpose. Know your life mission. Otherwise, you will be a puppet of the winds of change, the illusions of life, and the manipulative people around you. You cannot escape the physical life when the sh** hits your face. The only thing you can do is to mentally rise above the pendulum of life and be free from ifs effects. The purpose is the key.
You will grow soon and reach adulthood faster than you could imagine. So, take the time to learn at school. Learn from everyone around you. Ask. Enjoy your childhood as your responsibilities in the future will allow less time to do the things you want freely.
Listen to the advice above to be successful in life without depending on others.
Cheers,
Kenan
