8 Reasons People Give Up on Their Dreams

Approach, mindset, tools, and everything for your success.

Give up or continue to struggle is a decision you make often. It’s no secret that most people easily give up in life, in business, on their goals. Being attentive to this terrible concept, I’ve tried to discover the reasons people give up. A wise person, in this case, should know the primary reasons and become different from 90% of the population by joining strong, influential people. Let's discover the reasons people give up and what to do to succeed.

They give others the power to influence their decisions.

Giving others influence is something we can see in the early stage of life. When parents decide instead of the child making him dependent. In life, we have big and responsible decisions, sometimes we need help, advice from others. The mistake here is to listen to the advice from anyone. In most cases, you shouldn't listen to your parents as well.

Listen and accept advice from people you would like to look like, from people who already succeeded. If a fat guy advises you on how to be fit, how can you value his words? (Even if he’s right)

They Fail Once — And Never Try Again.

Lots of people quit since the first failure. Afterward, they blame everyone, the entire world except themselves.

Those who quit from the first fail either don’t have willpower or have the wrong mindset.

Whatever you do, just be ready for failure. It's unavoidable. You need to have a correct mindset. Never think you can succeed easily. Be ready for worst-case scenarios.

They focus on the failure, not the lesson.

After failures, people focus on it and get depressed. They think like “I’m a failure, I fail”. Instead, we need to focus not on failure, but on lessons we learn from failures. Remember: Every fail is a lesson.

Lack of Discipline.

Those who don’t know how to discipline themselves can't keep struggling for their dreams and give up easily. A quote that explains the discipline and approach of successful and average people.

Winners embrace hard work. They love the discipline of it, the trade-off they’re making to win. Losers see it as a punishment. And that’s the difference.” — Lou Holtz

They Focus on Result Rather Than Process.

One of the reasons that people quit is that they focus on the result rather than the process. You may ask why. The answer is simple. Based on research and experiments, study shows that our brain is lazy and always tries to avoid hard and complicated things. And imagining results, thinking of results is fun, interesting, and favorable, unlike the process. Are you agree?

Bad Environment.

If you have a negative environment, eventually you’ll give up. Having a bad environment you don’t get objective opinions, you don't get inspiration and motivation; you don’t see examples of success. All you get is negativity, meaningless advice, and worthless critics. Avoid the bad environment ASAP.

They Consider The Society Opinion.

Whatever you do, if you consider the opinion of society, you’ll give up. Society has a Herd mentality. Why pay attention to it? Never pay attention to society, their behavior, and their lifestyle. You’ll not find anything good. Instead, focus on yourself, do things you think are right.

Short Term Vision.

It’s my first month I write on medium. I don’t know if this post will succeed or not. I don’t have a big audience, I can’t publish my articles in bigger publications. If I had a short-term vision, I would have quit already. Thinking about my goal, having a long-term vision helps me to not give up. As I mentioned in one of my articles, successful people are different with their long-term vision. They know point B; they imagine all difficulties and fails; they know risks, but that doesn't make them quit.

There are lots of reasons people give up, but I mentioned here only the most famous reasons. People quit because they don’t believe in themselves, they aren’t dedicated, they don't know how to prioritize. These are obvious reasons I wouldn't describe separately.

Conclusion

It’s really difficult to not give up, it’s difficult for you, for me, for Bill Gates for everyone. But it’s worth working hard, struggling for your values, for your goals. And my call to you is: When you feel exhausted when you want to give up, remember Edison failed 10,000 times before perfecting the incandescent electric light bulb.
