Every day an adult makes 35.000 decisions. Decisions are an important part of our life. Decisions give rise to actions, actions to habits, habits to lifestyle. Many people make poor decisions. I’ve researched to understand the cause of poor decisions to make rational and wise decisions in life. Now, I’d like to share with you some key ideas.
Reasons People Make Poor Decisions
Incomplete and False Information
Today, in this high-tech world, everyone has access to information and everyone can share information easily. Technological developments have their disadvantages and one of them is informational chaos. We receive tons of information; we don’t know whether they are true or not. And based on false information, we make poor decisions.
Emotion
A lot of bad decisions come from emotions. People are emotional. Marketers use our weaknesses to sell. Coffee flavor, influencers, banners, social media ads.
As a result, we buy things we don’t need. Remember that black Friday? Do you use what you bought?
Rush and Hurry
Our lifestyle has changed. We rush to reach the workplace; we rush to catch a workout; we rush to cook. And rushing became our habit and lifestyle. As a result, we decide in a rush.
What to Do to Make the Wise Decisions
Now when we know the reasons for bad decisions, that helps us a lot in making the right decisions.
One way to make a good decision. A study of Michigan University shows that we make better decisions for others than for ourselves. If a friend comes to you and as your advice. You’ll think, calculate the risks, good and bad sides and make a rational decision for your friend. But If you face a decision personally, you make poor decisions.
So when you need to decide, stop for a moment, turn off your emotions, imagine as if it’s a decision of your friend and you need to advise him.
