Well, here it is Tuesday again.

Some big-time writers recommend you write 200 or 250 words every day, Some say 500 words. But, of course, when you get to be that big a deal, you have people. You have your people write those words, while you feed your polo ponies. or sit out by the pool. Interviewing new pool-boys. They are hard to find these days..

One big-time writer says 500 words is roughly two pages, and doing that daily rendered him a 90, 000-word novel every fifteen hundred months. Like clockwork.

Snappy banter and scathing repartee aside, writing is a lot of work. Hard, grueling work. Not to dissuade new authors, but many people would rather eat a bug than write a novel. That’s why we have so few novels.

If it were as easy for us to crank out a novel as for those sphincterless birds to let it go over your newly polished Beamer, life would be sweet.

What I need to tell you aspiring new writers, at this time, is to “wax on, wax off,” Mr. Miyagi. Practice IS the stairway to heaven. If you practice every day, soon you will simply feel odd if you don’t. Therein lies the key to success. Practice, not feeling odd.
