7 Writing Related Hacks on Medium to Help Writers Promote Their Stories
Have you read the latest writing tips to help you promote your stories?
As Medium writers, we know oh so well how difficult it is for a story to be seen and read, when you have very little, to no followers.
The 7 writing related hacks — specific to Medium writers — can actually help, if you decide to use them. In case any of you have missed the stories I’ve written about these hacks, I’m here to bring you up to speed.
Stick Around to the End
I hate to say it, but there is one specific reason that some writers don’t know to take advantage of good writing tips, hacks and old fashioned advice. Some of us are in too big of a hurry, to properly comprehend what we’re reading.
Ask yourself, how often do you fail to stick around to the end of a story, that you initially chose to read?
Maybe it didn’t get to the information you were seeking fast enough, so you decided to move on. Or maybe you tried to bypass the meat and potatoes of the story completely, and scroll to the end for what you were seeking.
Either way, you very well may have missed the whole point of the information you were originally seeking.
So my suggestion for this story and any future stories you read (mine or whoever), do yourself a favor and stick around to the end.

This information is GUARANTEED to help you increase your productivity, visibility, and exposure for your stories, IF you read it, implement it, and allow it to yield results.
Promoting Former Medium Stories
These various writing tips, people like to refer to as hacks, are actually solid strategies and good writing advice. I challenge you to put them to the test and apply them to new and existing Medium stories.
STOP being that Medium writer with great stories that never get a chance to be read. I know it’s hard for those of us writers who are just getting started, because we lack Followers (aka loyal readers).
But once we finally start building a nice following, who wants to have tons of great stories that have managed to get lost in the crowd? I sure in the hell don’t!
Some writers merely give up on all their former hard work, and try to keep popping out new stories. In my personal opinion, there is nothing wrong with that attitude, if it means you can stay positive, and continue doing quality writing.
On the other hand I’ve written some pretty great stuff, and I have no intention of allowing my babies to go unnoticed indefinitely.
So every time I get another great idea about how to promote my Medium stories, I make a point to go back and draw attention to former stories that aren’t getting read.
If you would like to do the same, either with your previously written Medium stories, then try these 7 effective strategies to help promote your stories.
7 Medium Writing Hacks
- Properly identifying your anchor text will help you potentially get Google recognition for the specific text connected to your links
2) Tick the little box right before you publish your story, that asks: “…email this story to your subscribers” AND don’t forget to do it with each of your new stories. I haven’t written about this, because I only recently discovered it, darn it! But I’ve been doing it faithfully, now that I know.
You might be able to go back and do it with the older stories also, but I only just thought of that, so I’ haven’t tried it yet.
3) Go to your “Story Settings” to include what I call a kicker opening, specifically for SEO purposes. This brief opening statement (155 max characters) is what Google will show in their search results, and you’re the one in control of what it says.
NOTE: As an update to the story I wrote about this, I now know where to locate this tab, even BEFORE you publish your story. That means Google will get the information the first time it publishes, instead of somewhere down the line (if you do it after the initial publishing) when the website is indexed again.
The tab can be found right next to the green “Publish” tab. Just click the three dots, and select: “More Settings” and then click the “SEO Settings” on the left side of the page, just like it explains in the following story.
4) Post a tweet of your completed, published story, then insert the link of the tweet at the bottom of the actual story. This is a good way to solicit for RETWEETS of your story, and may possibly help grow your Medium and Twitter following.
The bottom of this “…lost in the crowd” story has an example of what it looks like so check it out LATER.
5) Leave a RESPONSE on a story you read, and include a quote from the writer in the beginning of your comment. This will help you easily locate quotes to use later in your own stories (which is a good way to gain new readers and followers).
6) Bookmark a story to read later, using the bookmark tab. Have you ever had a story you didn’t have time to read, but you wanted to remember to go back and read later?
But you forget where the story was located, so you may be missing out on vital writing tips and other useful information. Bookmarking is the best way to keep up with those story titles.
I honestly forget to use this awesome feature sometimes, but it’s even great for keeping stories you read, but want to refer to again and again, like this one. (SO BOOKMARK THIS STORY NOW).
The Bookmark tab is located on the published story page, just under the subheading, to the right. It’s the little ribbon-looking icon right next to the 3 dots, so get used to using it.
7) Shameless self-promotion is the final writing tip or hack (if you prefer) that I want to reemphasize with you all. All the details relating to this type of useful information can be found in the story: Medium Writers Wanted: Shameless Self Promotion Welcome! (Below)
