Summary

An 83-year-old man from the UK was discovered to have been driving without a license or insurance for 70 years, maintaining a perfect driving record without any accidents or collisions.

Abstract

A UK man, born in 1938, has been driving since the age of 12 without the necessary documentation, having evaded police detection until recently. Despite the legal requirements for a driving license and insurance since 1935 and 1930 respectively, he managed to drive for seven decades without incident. His remarkable driving skills and clean record were only brought to light when advanced traffic cameras in Nottingham identified him. The Bulwell, Rise Park, and Highbury Vale Police team reported the incident on Facebook, expressing disbelief at the man's admission and his ability to avoid police attention for so long. The man's driving prowess has led to speculative rumors about magical powers or alien origins, though these are purely imaginative. The police emphasized the effectiveness of ANPR cameras in ensuring driving compliance and reminded drivers to keep their documents in order.

Opinions

  • The author finds the man's story to be "mind-boggling" and felt compelled to share it due to its unique nature.
  • The police are portrayed as initially suspecting the man might have extraordinary means of evading capture, such as magical powers or a flying car, highlighting the incredulity of the situation.
  • The author humorously suggests that even James Bond villains could learn from the man's ability to avoid detection.
  • The police spokesperson's comments reflect a mix of amazement and respect for the man's perfect driving record, despite the legal infractions.
  • The author implies that the man's driving skills are exceptional, labeling him as one of the most skilled drivers ever, and hints at a sense of admiration for his undetected driving history.
  • The author uses the incident to remind readers of the importance of having proper driving documentation due to the increasing surveillance by traffic cameras.

I don’t normally do posts like this, but as a one-off, I just had to share this story because it is simply mind-boggling. A UK driver who was born in 1938, and has been driving since he was 12 years old, was pulled over by local police in Nottingham. It was found that he had been driving since 1950 without a licence or insurance.

Since 1935 all UK drivers have had to pass a driving test before being issued with a licence, and since 1930 all car owners have had to have insurance by law. So unfortunately he does not have the “driving licences and insurance were not a thing when I was young” excuse.

That means he had been driving illegally his entire life — and by choice. The amazing thing is, despite this, he had not been pulled over or caught out once — James Bond villains eat your heart out. This man is showing you how it’s done.

When he was finally pulled over — not because he made a mistake, but because the all-seeing laserlike cameras watching us all outed him — and he made the admission, rumour has it police wondered if he had some magical powers that could make his car invisible, and that was how he had evaded capture for so long.

Further rumour has it that some even pondered whether it was a flying car and that was how he had managed to evade capture for so long.

Further further rumour has it that some even questioned if he was actually an alien with superpowers, and that was how he had managed to avoid having any kind of bump ever in his life.

Rumours aside, all that is known for certain is that on Facebook, the Bulwell, Rise Park and Highbury Vale Police team said the un-named driver had a perfect driving record and had never had a collision.

“We can’t quite believe what happened …” the force spokesperson wrote, “as the driver, who was born in 1938, coughed that he had been driving with no licence and no insurance, since he was 12 (yes TWELVE) years old … and somehow had managed to never be stopped by the police.”

“Thankfully he had never had an accident, caused anyone an injury, and never made anyone lose out financially, by hitting them whilst uninsured.

“Due to the increased number of ANPR cameras in Nottingham, even on the small trips, you are likely to hit a camera, so make sure your documents are in order … because it will catch up with you … one day.”

One day indeed! It’s not known whether the police charged the elderly criminal mastermind, but, one thing is for sure, for better or for worse, history will remember him as one of the most skilled drivers ever to have lived.
