6 Quotes By Ram Dass That Will Change Your Mind
The less you care, the more you get.
Quotes give us hope. They give us strength when we need it the most. I would sit down and read quotes to be inspired and motivated. I love being inspired.
I love love, love quotes.
They can lift you up and give you hope when you feel like all hope is lost.
Inspirations are everywhere and they are here to lift our spirit in times of darkness and tribulation.
Inspirations are everywhere.
It was nice to read them once in a while.
We need more leaders, gurus, preachers, philosophers, scientists, etc. in this world. There are still thinkers in ancient times whose words are still important today.
They were ahead of their times and that’s why people are still talking about them. Spreading more truth to the world can save us from our insanity.
This man, Ram Dass shared words of wisdom which turned into quotes. He was a guru and a psychologist.
I love a lot of his quotes and it’s wonderful to read them once in a while.
About Ram Dass: Ram Dass (born Richard Alper) was a spiritual teacher, psychologist, and author. He delivered his tender wisdom in his famous book “Be Here Now.” which is about meditation and spirituality. He published the book in 1971.
He was a psychologist at Harvard University and travelled to India to work with his guru and came back to the states to spread the eastern philosophy to the western world.
He left the world last year but carried a huge impact in the world and for those who followed his teaching. He decided to spread his message of love, peace, ego death and mindfulness. I think he will be remembered for his profound perspective and wisdom centuries after just like any guru’s.
I hope to bring his message to you on this topic and how his philosophy will change the way you think.
What you’ll learn from this article:

6 Quote By Ram Dass That Will Change The Way You Think
1. “Your problem is you are too busy holding on to your unworthiness.”
The problem is being fixated on your unworthiness. Many people are experts at judging themselves. We are our worst enemy.
Ask yourself this, what will you benefit from unfairly judging yourself? Nothing.
What you pay attention to the most, will bring more of it. The more you are focused on why you aren’t beautiful, the more life will give you reasons why you aren’t beautiful. You get what you focus on the most. You attract what you think and feel the most.
Loving yourself does not mean you’re arrogant and self-centered. It’s far from that. It’s about being in peace with yourself. It’s about knowing who you truly are.
Loving yourself does not only mean you say nice things to yourself in the mirror.
It’s about saying no to the things you genuinely don’t feel comfortable doing. It’s about giving yourself a timeout when you’re feeling overwhelmed. It’s about being respectful to those who deserve it. It’s about defending yourself when you’re being disrespected. It’s about feeding your body with healthy food.
It will get better if you work at it.
You just have to make no room for excuses as to why you aren’t worthy of happiness and success.
You treat yourself bad because:
- You had a rough upbringing.
- You have unhealed traumas.
- You got bullied at school and in the workplace.
- You compare yourself to unrealistic Instagram models.
- Your parents made you feel worthless in your childhood.
- You think you’re unworthy of love because you have no one in your life.
Tips to love yourself more:
- Give yourself a break.
- Say what’s on your mind.
- Put yourself on the pedestal.
- Stop seeking validation from others.
- Find one detail you love about yourself.
2. “The most exquisite paradox… as soon as you give it all up, you can have it all. As long as you want power, you can’t have it. The minute you don’t want power, you’ll have more than you ever dreamed possible.”
You can’t achieve your goals if you try too hard or focus too hard. Being desperate and obsessed is the biggest mistake you can do.
Holding unto something tight will only push you away from what you desire the most.
When you want something, spend time focusing on your intention and act as if you already have what you desire. Feel it with good feelings. Feed it with positive feelings.
Let it go and go on about your day. Let go of doubts, worries, negativity, etc.
The less you care, the more you get.
You let go because you’re ALREADY happy and satisfied with your current life.
You’ll attract what you want the most once you let go and stop overthinking about it.
It works like charm.
It works wonders.
It’s simple and effective.
It’s a paradox, but that is how it works. You can’t change the law but you can adjust to the law and surrender to the journey.
Have fun with setting an intention.
Have fun with the process of acting as if you already have it.
Not long ago I visualized and thought how amazing it would be to receive a donation and I felt happy about it. I forgot all about it. Later on, I got an email from a man who sent me a donation with a long message about how one of my articles has brightened his entire day.
This was from my own blog site, not here. I did not expect this. I did not seek power from this small desire. I just focused on how I felt as if I already received it.
The things I wanted the most always came when I forgot about it.
You order products online and let go of it because you know it will come to you.
Use the same mindset and attitude when you want a desire.
Let go of all the negative thoughts and emotions about why it hasn’t been achieved.
Work really hard in your life.
Take inspired actions when they come and let go of all the doubts, worries, and fears.
Just surrender to all the possibilities coming your way.
How to apply:
- Be mindful & meditate.
- Believe your life only gets better.
- Be content with your current life.
- Do what you’re passionate about.
- Shift your mindset into a warrior mindset.
3. “It is important to expect nothing, to take every experience, including the negative ones, as merely steps on the path, and to proceed.”
You have to trust the process you’re in. The road to your success is not an easy straight line.
It’s a messy line.
You will bump into things standing in your way.
You will face failure, hard work, battles, distraction, unhappiness, pressure, obstacles on the road to your success.
It’s a very lonely road, but it will pay off well if you stay consistent.
People who achieved success had a lonely road to success, but they are proof that anything is possible.
Nothing is impossible because they see the impossible as possible. Their success opens doors for the next generations to chase after their dreams.
YOUR success can inspire your neighbor or the kid on the street.
You will face joy and sorrow.
It’s a painful journey but it’s worth it in the end.
The hard work will pay you off one day and a new day is one step closer to your dream. You will be rewarded in the end.
You just have to trust the process that everything will be fine in the end no matter how messy it looks like right now.
How to trust the process:
- Calm yourself down.
- Don’t worry about it.
- Embrace the failure.
- Focus on working hard.
- Have faith no matter what.

4. “Suffering is part of our training program for becoming wise.”
I don’t know any wise people with a suffering past.
Do you?
I’m not saying you must suffer and be tortured to be wise.
I’m saying it because it’s what it is.
Most homeless people tend to come up with words of wisdom and are wise beyond their years.
The wisest people I have met and witnessed online had a rough past.
Empathic people are empathic because they have experienced lots of suffering in the past and that’s why they can feel the pain of other people’s suffering.
The world should be full of empathic people, then we will feel less alone in this world.
It’s a curse and a blessing.
Your life is the biggest education you’ve had because life is school itself. It takes you on a rollercoaster of joy and sorrow.
You learn plenty of extraordinary lessons you don’t learn in school. There is a light in the darkness and within that light is a great lesson to be learned from.
The suffering in our past makes us stronger in the future. Remember this; you are and will never stop growing in life. You are constantly growing even if you don’t notice it. Your life doesn’t get worse, it gets better.
People can see how far you’ve come. You can’t see it, but you have.
You have to open your mind.
Now it doesn’t mean you have to live the rest of your life suffering because we both know that’s not healthy. You CAN live a happy and fulfilling life free of suffering. You
You had a suffering past that made you wise, and now you create the life you want with MORE knowledge. You get better every day.
Why suffering makes us wise:
- You learn about ethics and morality.
- You gain empathy towards other people.
- The pain from our past makes us stronger.
- It gives you a new perspective in a situation.
5. “You are loved just for being who you are, just for existing. You don’t have to do anything to earn it. Your shortcomings, your lack of self-esteem, physical perfection, or social and economic success — none of that matters. No one can take this love away from you, and it will always be here.”
Love starts within yourself. It starts with you. You can’t expect someone to love you if there is no love in your heart. You can’t find love in another person before you find love in YOU. It’s within you.
The path to self-love is a long journey. It can be hard at first to find something you love about yourself because it has become a habit to criticize yourself and making excuses as to why you’re not good enough.
Resisting your own value will lead you to the same path of being miserable.
Who are you trying to prove yourself to? — No one.
Seeking validation from others won’t make you happier. It’s not your job to make people approve of you. It’s your job to approve of yourself.
Things to say to yourself:
- “I am in competition with no one.”
- “I am worthy of everything that’s good.”
- “I respect and value myself.”
- “I deserve love and happiness.”
6. Emotions are like waves. Watch them disappear in the distance on the vast calm ocean.
Your emotions can be chaotic. Your emotions ride like a rollercoaster that flies up to heaven and down to hell.
You feel happy, you feel unhappy.
Your mind races everywhere.
I’m not saying bad emotions are bad. You should absolutely be allowed to feel any emotions you want as long as you don’t take it to extremes.
It’s not normal to have negative emotions all the time and it’s not normal to have positive emotions all the time.
Balancing your emotions can bring you harmony. Don’t deny your emotions or it will lead you to more unhealed pain that breaks out in the wrong moment.
Accept what happened in the past. Comfort yourself with love for what happened in the past. Let go of everything that no longer serves you. If you’re smart, you should know emotions comes and go.
Just watch them come and go. Feel the emotions and let them disappear easily.
I think to myself after feeling miserable: “Move forward. Keep going. The next day is a new opportunity.”
There is an inner child in you that’s hurting. Let that inner child feel every bad and good emotion.
When you cry, it’s your inner child that’s crying from the pain of the past. Allow your inner child to cry just like you allow your own child to cry.
Then comfort your inner child with love just like you would comfort your own child with love.
When you motivate yourself, you’re really lifting your inner child’s spirit up.
Now you allowed your emotions to come out. Just remember to not take everything personally when people share their opinion with you. You will always feel miserable if you let other people’s words control you.
People have different opinions whether you like it or not. Observe your emotions with logic the moment you feel triggered.
How to observe your emotions:
- Allow the emotions to come out.
- Observe the emotions with logic.
- Accept what happened in the past.
- Ask yourself what triggers your subconscious mind.
The Final Thought
Life is an adventure itself. There is so much to experience in this world. A door opens when you free yourself from your own mental prison. You’ll be granted many opportunities when you open your mind and let go of everything you can’t control.
Be brave of who you are and never let anyone take away your power. You’re deserving of a peaceful life. The peace comes from within you. You just have to claim your spot on this earth and remember that you’re worthy of love because there is love inside you.
Don’t try to change anyone or anything. Allow them to be what they are and focus on your life. Appreciate how much you’ve learned in the process of reaching your dream. Surrender to the infinite possibilities there is in this world.
Be here now at the moment.
Appreciate everything as it is.
Whatever you do, do it with a purpose.
