I don’t know why it is that regardless of the talent and ingenuity it may have taken to get us where we are, some of us still have imposter syndrome. No matter what we manage to accomplish, we don’t ever seem to feel like we deserve it.

Do words like fraud, fake, and imposter rattle around in your brain and make you second guess practically every thing you do?

Recently, I shared a comment with Sherryl Writes — a fellow writer on Medium, in response to her story: Freelance Writing is a Lonely Profession (something I encourage everyone to read).

In our discussion, neither of us used the expression “imposter syndrome” but that is clearly what the underlying issue was.

I could so easily relate to the things she described, and her doubts about seriously pursuing the writing career she’d been longing to get started on.

That conversation prompted me to consider writing on the topic of imposter syndrome, so I thought I’d get a few quotes from a Medium writer or two.

I was astonished to find so many great looking titles on the subject. Clearly, this is an issue that is much more common than I realized, as you will see from the following points, and the extensive list.

I didn’t even see the need to try and go into an explanation of what this syndrome really is.

With the wealth of information you’ll find in these stories, you will most assuredly get a clear description and understanding about this condition, as well as how to avoid it.

Your Imposter Syndrome Feelings Are Common

Whether or not the old saying about misery loving company is true or not, it does tend to make us feel better, when we know we’re not alone when we go through something.

The same is true about feelings of imposter syndrome. We realize we’re not the only people feeling this way, no matter what our job, career, or talent happens to be.

But it’s really helpful, to be able to read about the specific situations that other individuals like us have experienced. When we see that other creative and talented people have dealt with the same fears, and managed to overcome them, this can help us get our act together.

That is exactly what reading some of the following stories will help you be able to do. There’s something here for everyone, no matter if you’re a writer, an artist or some type of creative designer.

Whatever job, career, or skill set you have, that causes you to doubt yourself, there is at least one story in this list that can help you.
