5 Routines That Enhance Your Creative Thinking

Enrich yourself daily with life and curiosity to create your own magical powers

Sometimes it seems that certain people are simply gifted with a knack for creativity. Being creative can manifest itself in many different forms, and you use this skill daily without even knowing it. As a writer, it’s a skill you can strengthen with practice, even if you weren’t born with creative talent.

If you feel like you’re not one of those lucky few who have tapped into a seemingly infinite creative energy, it doesn’t mean you’re doomed to a mundane and predictable life.

There are some obvious real benefits to creativity, and if you really focus your attention on finding your creative powers, I can promise you will immediately feel the positive impact of your brain’s imaginative abilities and effectiveness.

Go for a walk

When we walk, we feel better physically and begin to see our thoughts more clearly. Once external distractions are eliminated, stress and anxiety begin to subside, and our minds can relax. This relaxed state is where magic often happens. The art of walking is incredibly meditative, and I find it very suitable for my way of thinking. Also, spending time outdoors is great exercise. I do an average of 10–15km per day. I am lucky enough to have the time and the freedom to do this. Make sure you mute your devices for the full creative experience.

Take a shower

Science has shown that some of your best ideas come when you are relaxed. With the busy life most of us live, the most relaxing moments of the day are in the morning and evening showers. Since the day is filled with work and duties, taking a shower is the best time to gather your thoughts in peace. Your imagination kicks in when you can truly think without interruption. Ending or starting the day with 15 minutes of sustainable thinking ignites creative ideas and thoughts. Take the time to think about your interactions, the problems you encounter, and the solutions you can propose.

Meditate every day

Meditation is beneficial for physical and mental health. Its therapeutic power can improve concentration, reduce stress, prevent cognitive decline, and keep the brain healthy and alert as we age. A well-rested mind has greater potential for learning new things and finding more creative ideas. There are several meditation methods you can do to expand your imagination. Spending quiet time focusing on your breathing or completing guided meditations is one way to train your reactive mindset.

Be a storyteller

Practice imaginative and creative thinking by telling as many stories as possible. Be descriptive. Let it allow you and your listener to visualize what is being said. Visualization is often thought of as one’s ability to create a clear and vivid image in mind. Visualization also includes the sense of touch, smell, taste, and other senses. Visualization allows you to imagine the story being told or the object being described. The more imaginative and creative the mind becomes, the more elaborate the visualizations can be.
