5 Proven Benefits of Drinking a Gallon of Water a Day
Drinking a gallon of water will help you lose 20 pounds in 30 days.
Water Please!
To escape the summer heat, we all reach for a bottle of water. Our bodies tell us when it is thirsty. We only need to listen to what our bodies tell us.
It is easy to fall off the wagon with our diet, and suddenly we look in the mirror and what we see is our protruding belly fat.
But it’s OK, love your body in any shape. If you ever want to lose weight, it is because of health reasons, and that is why I want to lose 20 pounds in 30 days, because I can already feel the bad effects on my health of the excess twenty pounds, and one of the things I am doing is by drinking a gallon of water a day.
It’s not exactly news that proper hydration is essential for health. Your body is mostly water, and proper hydration helps keep it functioning at optimum levels.
A couple of glasses of water with every meal can go a long way to keeping you healthy.
1. Drinking a gallon of water a day is easy and can keep you healthy.
Drink a full gallon of water every day. It’s easy to do, and once it becomes a habit, it’ll keep your skin looking great and your body functioning at its best. As a result, you’ll feel less bloated and have more energy.
And, of course, you’ll flush out toxins and keep yourself from getting sick.
Drinking enough water also helps with digestion, regulates your electrolytes, and reduces fatigue. Plus, drinking water can increase fluid retention, and it greatly speeds up how the body cleans itself of toxins.
Drinking water helps your muscles work properly, improves mental clarity, and can aid in weight loss.
“Drinking a gallon of water a day is not really necessary, but it’s not going to hurt you either,” says Beth Czerwony, MS, RD, CSOWM, LD, Dietician
Water moves and vibrates, just like a rubber band. If you stretch with it, you get more circulation; if you straighten it, your muscles work harder. Also, it helps strengthen your bones and muscles if you squeeze correctly.
Moreover, when the water warms up, the body, joints, muscles, and organs warm up.
Drinking enough water helps with digestion, improves muscle tone, and burns more calories.
2. Your skin will be healthier.
Everyone who does drink a gallon of water a day regimen swears that their skin looks better. And like many who drink water a lot, I notice it too, maybe because when we drink less, our bodies compensate and release oil to moisturize our skin.
Is drinking extra water good for your skin?
There is no scientific study to back up this claim. One of the reasons is that water can’t be patented. It is free.
And there is zero value for any business to claim any benefits to the skin when we drink more water than the 8 glasses of water which is the standard minimum water intake.
Water is the number one “civilization changer” I use every day.
But unfortunately, when I started to be busy writing, I forget to stand up and get myself a glass of water. So, to fix all that, I added a small pantry table beside my work desk.
A gallon of water is about 4 liters.
All I have to do is divide the goal of drinking a gallon of water into small parts. That way, it isn’t overwhelming if I look at the gallon of water.
In the morning, it is quite hard to finish a liter of water in one go. So, I start drinking water before a meal because there are days when I don’t have breakfast. So, my first meal is to drink a liter of water right before I take my first bite.
The rest of the day, I would squeeze in two liters of water, and finally, before dinner time, I would drink my last liter of water before I eat.
And if my body feels it still needs more water, I allow my body to dictate whatever it needs to feel hydrated.
The only thing one has to remember, drinking a gallon of water means more bathroom visits, but isn’t that a small price to pay for all the benefits one gets from drinking water?
3. Your mind will be clearer.
I was having a writing slump when I decided to fully commit to losing weight and reaching for water instead of food.
I feel I am in a better mental state. I feel the extra energy, and research shows it does help with cognitive performance.
A key concern of this study was whether rehydration after water supplementation could improve cognitive performance and mood. The results determined that sufficient water supplementation is an effective method of ensuring optimal hydration and improving cognitive performance and mood. — Excerpt, Effects of Dehydration and Rehydration on Cognitive Performance and Mood among Male College Students in Cangzhou, China: A Self-Controlled Trial
4. You’ll have more energy.
Before I added a small pantry where I write, I was consuming very little water, and now I am back to drinking when I am thirsty.
As a result, I feel less fatigued, my energy level is up and couple with a better mental state, and the absence of occasional headaches, which I am always prone to before, appears that constant hydration is the key to solving the slump I feel both physically and mentally.
Water Provides an Energy Boost
One reason to aim for a gallon of water each day is that, according to WebMD, doing so may significantly boost your energy level. Low energy is a common problem. Some people start to slump in the afternoon and would sooner reach for a soda or a cup of coffee than a glass of water. Others feel groggy from the moment they wake up.
No matter your typical energy level, better hydration could be the answer. In fact, fatigue and low energy are two of the most immediate symptoms of insufficient water intake. Drinking a gallon of water each day may help you sustain your energy and even sleep better at night. — Excerpt, 5 Benefits to Drinking a Gallon of Water a Day
5. Lose weight without doing any exercise
It is possible to lose 20 pounds of body fat in 30 days by optimizing any of three factors: exercise, diet, or drug/supplement regimen. — Tim Ferriss
Even Tim Ferris said,
Dont drink your calories
But by drinking water, the craving stops or, at the very least, is minimized. In addition, by feeling full, you trick your body into thinking it isn’t hungry even if it is past your mealtime.
And I can already notice, a few days after I started drinking a gallon of water a day, that cravings for carbohydrates are not as bad as it was before.
Conclusion
Again, there has been no extensive research on the benefits of drinking a gallon of water a day. But, there is no study either to disprove that water consumption is one of the ways we help our bodies fight dehydration.
The Dangers of Dehydration
Some of the most significant dangers of dehydration include the following:
a. Mental “fog” and lack of clarity
b. Digestive problems/difficulty eliminating bodily waste
c. Overeating and a slow metabolism
e. Poor skin quality
f. Minimal benefit from workouts and physical activity

We are our own captain of the ship when it comes to our health. Our bodies know what it needs. When it is dehydrated, we feel thirsty, and when it needs sustenance, we feel hungry.
We only have to make better choices.
We can choose to keep on reaching for soda when we are thirsty or choose water. We can choose to snack when we feel hungry or choose healthy eating or drink a glass of water to identify what the body is really feeling.
Is it hunger or thirst?
Bonus Tip
You’ll save money on bottled water if you start drinking from a reusable water bottle.
One of the most expensive things I spent money on was bottled water. I was drinking one bottle of water a day, sometimes two, and it cost me $3–4 a day, which is about $100 a month.
I started filling up a stainless steel water bottle and carrying it with me every day.
And when I am at home, I drink regular tap clean water.
