5 Incredible Audiobooks Every Writer Needs To Add to Their TBR List
Love audiobooks? These will help you become a better author.
I love listening to audiobooks. I mean, audiobooks let me read while I am driving in my car or taking a walk or falling asleep. Audiobooks are amazing.
But I’m picky about them, too. I’m picky about the narrator. I’m picky about what kind of book I want to read over audiobook.
If you want an audiobook about writing, then believe me when I say these are worth the listen.
By the way, I do include affiliate links below! That just means that if you purchase any of these, I will get a small portion. Thanks!
Save the Cat! Writes a Novel Audiobook
Jessica Brody is a great narrator and author. As an international author of more than fifteen novels, she is an incredible resource.
The Save the Cat! series is a great breakdown of storytelling. She also wrote a book on screenwriting that is really helpful.
This book will give you the 15 beats that make a captivating story. This is a truly amazing book and will help you become a better writer. The audiobook clocks at 10 hours and 49 minutes.
Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life
Anne Lamott is one of my favorite writers. Her books on faith and life are truly inspirational.
I personally love the audiobook version because Anne’s voice is so soothing to hear. Other books I recommend of hers are Dusk Night Dawn and Almost Everything.
Bird by Bird is a transformative book on writing. She will teach you not only how to write, but how to live the life of a writer. The audiobook clocks in at 6 hours and 18 minutes.
Lifelong Writing Habit: The Secret to Writing Every Day
I have recommended Chris Fox’s books before, and now I am recommending the audiobook version.
This book gives you practical advice on how to turn your writing passion into a writing habit, using science-based research. This book is great for someone who wants to write but has a very hard time being consistent.
Lifelong Writing Habit is on the shorter side of audiobooks, but it is also on the less expensive side, too. This book clocks in at 1 hour and 55 minutes.
7 Figure Fiction
T. Taylor’s book is a very buzzed-about book. As a part of the 20BooksTo50k group, I see this book mentioned on a regular basis as one of the best.
T. Taylor claims that she “accidentally” wrote three books that landed in the Amazon Top 100. So, I would say that her strategies are pretty valuable. If you want to learn how “universal fantasy” helped her to become a bestselling author, then this book is for you.
7 Figure Fiction clocks in at 3 hours and 28 minutes.
Story Genius
Lisa Cron is a literary agent, a TV producer, and is on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts MFA Program. Her credentials speak for themselves.
While she doesn’t narrate the book herself, her narrator Brittany Pressley is excellent. This book, like Save the Cat! is a book that will break down the power and tools of storytelling for you.
This book lays out the process of creating a book from the start to the end. Story Genius clocks in at 9 hours and 36 minutes.
