5 Books To Read If You Want To Write Books for A Living
I give these my stamp of approval!
Do you dream of being a full-time author? Me too.
I have read a ton of books that promise to teach me how to write full-time or how to sell a lot of books or how to be a faster writer. Some of those books work. Some of them don’t.
I wanted to do a round-up of books for you that I know provide great content.
So, let’s get to it, shall we?
By the way, I do include affiliate links below! That just means that if you purchase any of these, I will get a small portion. Thanks!
The Writing Gals Discuss: Writing to Market
This book is truly life-changing.
If you want to learn how to actually make a profit from your books, this is a really important book to add to your TBR list.
It’s written in a conversational format between four different authors and they discuss how they make their money. They give a behind-the-scenes look at the writing process and how to choose a genre and trope to write.
I frequently reference this book as I write and I read these authors’ books, too.
Become A Successful Indie Author: Work Toward Your Dream
Craig Martelle is an indie author legend.
He runs to 20Booksto50k Facebook group that features so many amazing self-publishing and writing tips. And this is just one of his many great books.
I also really enjoyed his Release Strategies book.
This book is a motivational guide that shows you how to reach your dream as a successful indie author.
Six Figure Author: Using Data to Sell Books: Write Faster, Write Smarter
Chris Fox is another self-publishing guru.
This guide is amazing. It will teach you how to get the Amazon algorithm working for you. It also helps you not waste too much time begging readers to read your book.
Chris Fox also has a great book called Write to Market that teaches about the topic that the Writing Gals discuss in their book.
Writing and Releasing Rapidly
As a self-published writer, you need to write and publish a lot.
It is a different model than the traditional publishing model because you need to keep the demand going.
Elana Johnson will show you how to plan a rapid release. She’s also really open about her numbers, which is incredibly helpful. I love how transparent she is.
It’s also a book that you can read at any stage of your writing career. This is a highly recommend for me, especially if you plan on writing romance.
How To Market A Book
Joanna Penn is a legend in her own right, too.
She runs The Creative Penn podcast and has helped countless authors on their writing journey. This is just one of her many books on writing.
I love this one in particular by her because she really breaks down how to become discoverable as a writer. It goes hand-in-hand with Chris Fox’s Six Figure Author.
So, are you ready to write books full-time?
These books will help you get there.
