Summary

The article outlines four psychological signs that indicate self-imposed limitations are hindering personal growth and how to overcome them.

Abstract

The article discusses the common tendency to limit oneself through one's own thought patterns, emphasizing that many people live as if they have multiple lives instead of embracing their full potential in the one life they have. It identifies four key signs that suggest a person's thinking is the primary obstacle to their success: relying on thought-based limitations, lacking belief in one's own worthiness, not having a plan to support dreams, and confining one's sense of possibility to the immediate environment. The author provides insights into how individuals can address these issues by questioning self-imposed limitations, building confidence through practice, creating a roadmap for their dreams, and expanding their vision of what is possible by learning from others' achievements.

Opinions

  • The author suggests that our thoughts are often the main barrier to achieving our dreams and that recognizing this is the first step towards personal liberation.
  • Feeling deserving of one's goals is presented as a prerequisite for achieving them, and the author recommends practicing and tracking progress to build this sense of worthiness.
  • The article posits that having a plan for one's dreams is crucial for motivation and focus, likening it to having a roadmap for a journey.
  • It is argued that one's belief system shapes their perception of reality and that by exposing oneself to different realities, an individual can broaden their sense of what is achievable.
  • The author encourages readers to shift their mindset from "I can't do it because no one else I know does it" to "if someone did it, I can do it too," fostering a belief in the possibility of success based on others' accomplishments.

4 Signs That the Only Thing Holding You Back Is Your Own Way of Thinking

And how to set yourself free of this

We all have one life, but in today’s society, it is easy to live as if we have 10 more waiting in line. For most of us, giving up dreams, or living a life that is foreign to us has become a “Plan B” if not “A”.

Yes, there are many components, from financial to social reasons that affect this result, but it’s usually our thoughts that weigh us down the most.

So today I’d like to share with you the 4 signs that the only thing that is holding you back is your own way of thinking, and these are:

1-All your limitations are thought based

2-You don’t believe you deserve the things you want

3-Your dreams are not supported by a plan

4-Your idea of what’s possible is what you see around you

1-All your limitations are thought based

There is a quote by Marcus Aurelius that goes as “Our life is what our thoughts make it.”, and I believe it is a great compass to where we should start the change if we want to lead the life we really want.

The mental fences that we built around our abilities are often why we feel held back in life, and it can lead to us noticing that this is an illusion.

So to avoid this, every time we start a sentence with “I can’t”, we can choose to ask ourselves the source of this conclusion. If it is a thought-based limitation, then we can start work on breaking this fence that we have built between us and our potential.

Most of the time our fear of failure gets in the way, and scare us to run back behind these fences, yet it is only our own shadow that we are really scared of.

Most of the time no one really cares half as much as we think they do. But regardless, we become scared of their judgement while we are the ones that are judging ourselves through an imagined judgement.

2-You don’t believe you deserve the things you want

Feeling that you deserve to have something is the first step towards achieving that goal, and thus when one feels like they are not worthy of the thing they want, it automatically pulls them back from ever coming close to it.

That is why, it is essential to change this mindset, and there are 2 methods that can be used to fix this.

The first one is when you think you need to work on your skills to deserve something. To fix this, we need to gain that confidence, and it can be done by keep practising and following our progress.

When it comes to the second method, it is where despite all the evidence that we are capable of achieving something believing otherwise. To fix this, it’s essential to ask ourselves how and why we adopted this belief.

After answering this question, we can start work on the root cause of this issue and find out what made us believe we don’t deserve something when we actually do.

3-Your dreams are not supported by a plan

To have a plan is no different than having a roadmap when starting a journey.

When it comes to our dreams, supporting them with a plan is essential to keep yourself motivated, and focused. Yes, our dreams may change and evolve throughout the process, yet it is easier to improve a plan than to be lost without having any.

4-Your idea of what’s possible is what you see around you

It is often said that once a world record is broken, it is followed by others who do the same thing. But to witness this, we do not have to go further than our own lives.

When someone in our social circle achieves something, it often feels a lot more reachable to us as well. This is because the world we see is a direct result of what we believe, and thus to widen one’s vision is to see possibility beyond that.

Therefore it is important to make the conscious choice shift our mindset through learning about the other realities people live in. By doing so, we can change our beliefs from “I can’t do it because no one else I know does it” to “if someone did it, I can do it too.”.

Final thoughts

Today I’ve shared with you the 4 signs that the only thing that is holding you back is your own way of thinking, and these were:

1-All your limitations are thought based

2-You don’t believe you deserve the things you want

3-Your dreams are not supported by a plan

4-Your idea of what’s possible is what you see around you

By learning to avoid these, we can break the illusions that prevent us from reaching our full potential, and improve through this awareness.

Thank you for reading.
