300 words 1/1/2024 | A Day Late and a Dollar Short

Hello All,

I’m writing this article on 1/2/2024 to count as my Medium article for 1/1/2024. Hence the title “A Day Late and a Dollar Short.” It is quite literally a day late and a dollar short of the article I started yesterday about the $2 dollar bill.

We are two days into 2024. The celebrations are over and the work has begun.

Like many of you I spent the last couple of days reflecting on the past year and planning the year ahead.

Part of what came out of that reflection is a desire to write more and to share more of what I’m interested in (that’s a long list). So, the 300 word challenge was born. I want to challenge myself to write and publish 300 words on Medium every day.

Will I hit this goal? We’ll see.

Will it be worth it? Absolutely.

What will I write about for 366 days? (This year is a leap year.)

That is a wonderful question. Right now it will be a little bit of everything and anything. It could be a list of my favorite quotes, lessons I’ve learned throughout the year, dreams, hopes, plans, the occasional fictional piece, tips, tricks, and resources that I find useful.

The whole purpose is to write. To put words to the page and see what comes out the other side. I don’t know where it will take me and that is the beauty of it.

Just because I like numbers: publishing a minimum of 300 words a day for 366 days will equate to 109,800 words in one year or 9,150 words a month. That is 2,195 more words than The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle which comes in at 107, 605 according to this link.

I can only hope that half of mine are just as clever as his. I look forward to the stories that unfold on the page, and the insights and connections that I’ll make along the way.

Here’s to a wonderful year in 2024.
