My interests are broad and deep. They refuse to be pigeonholed into a small segment, category, or niche. To hide my interests or passions is to cut off a part of myself. That is why I will no longer hide them away, or act small to fit someone else’s designation of what a brand is.

I chose the term and the brand the Eclectic JOAT (Jack of All Trades or Jeff Olsen’s All-consuming Thoughts) because it is a part of who I am. It is my representation to the world. You see I have always been called eclectic growing up. Whether it was my taste in music, my interests, or even my friend groups. It was always a wide and diverse mix filled with depth and nuance.

Take my friend groups growing up. I never solidified in one specific clique or group. I could always float between groups, adding value wherever possible. It didn’t matter if I was with the most popular crowd, or the down trodden and rejected masses. I always found a way to fit in. A way to connect. I never felt like I solidly belonged to a group, but was welcomed by all.

I think that holds true today. Over the past seven months I have forged solid connections with Web3 executives, freelance artists, AI innovators, communicators, entrepreneurs big and small, writers, musicians, and creators. The list can go on. Their locations are as diverse as their interests.

Again, I don’t solidly feel a part of any distinct group, but I do have (what I consider to be) deep relationships between all of them. I can see and weave connections wherever I go. Listening intently for this persons interest I look into my bag of tricks and either pull out a skillset I have or a connection to someone who can help.

I started EclecticJOAT.com for two reasons.

One, so my wife can be a stay at home mom.

Two, because I love to share.

I love to share ideas, knowledge, resources, tips and tricks, my favorite books, or even pens. I’m always quick with a link, a relevant thought, or an insight.

This is all to say that I am done not sharing my interests and insights. This account on Medium will include everything from how to make a dovetail to the finest pens and inks. All the while providing valuable tips tricks and resources around public speaking.

Thanks for reading.

-Jeff
