30 Positive Words for November

“Peering from some high window at the gold of November sunset, and feeling that if day has to become night, this is a beautiful way.” E.E Cummings

November is a month of contrasts — dreary, grey skies combined with vivid red, gold, yellow and green leaves. It seems as if everything is changing — and sometimes the pace of change appears to be too fast. If you feel like this, retreat, relax and take some time for yourself.

To me, November always feels like a time to hibernate. Just over a week ago, the clocks went back one hour here in the UK, so it gets dark at about 5pm. I’ve felt more tired than usual every evenings.

On a few evenings, I went out for a walk and enjoyed walking through the lit streets, looking at the Halloween decorations (fewer than in previous years) and some early Christmas twinkling lights. Normally a walk energizes me but I felt even more tired when I got home. I didn’t have the energy to do anything other than slump in front of the TV or read a book until I fell asleep.

I think darkness has this kind of sedative effect. Rather than trying to fight it, plan to get things done during the hours of daylight. Go out and appreciate the sunlight when it breaks through the clouds and the colorful leaves falling from the trees. Enjoy rustling through them as you did when you were a child!

When it gets dark, draw the curtains, grab a cup of hot chocolate, sink into a comfy chair and enjoy all the comfort that your home brings.
