FOR THE GODLY MYSTIC AND THE OPEN-MINDED
3 Things You Should Know When God Is Silent
Interpreting the silence of God

1. The Vessel Needs Work
God speaks in many ways. He speaks through dreams, visions, and people. He speaks through animals, numbers, trees, and the wind. God speaks constantly, but God can be silent as far as revealing his will concerning your destiny.
On your spiritual awakening journey, there will be seasons when you pray and meditate every day. You sing songs of worship and praise and you dance in gratitude. You fast and read sacred books and yet God refuses to say anything.
There is nothing more painful and confusing than that. It can make you feel as if something is wrong with you or God has better things to do than to speak to you. It can crush the spirit.
But anytime God withholds speaking his will concerning your destiny, it can mean that you, as the vessel, are not ready. Sometimes we want things we are not prepared or trained for. We don’t even know that we’re not prepared, but God knows. Revealing his will before you are ready would be a complete waste in that state.
The silence is to let you know that there’s something to be done to get you ready, and that also means that you must continue your healing work and your training so you become the vessel that is ready to do the will of God.
Most of us focus on God revealing his will, but every time God has a will for you, there’s a version of you that must be raised to be able to fulfill that will. If you’re not yet that version, God remains silent until he is done working on you.
So every time it feels like God is silent, focus on yourself and not him.
The work is being done within you, and that’s where you need to place your focus. Rather than lamenting every day in impatience, allow God to prepare.
He prepares you first so that the thing you want does not destroy you. Then, when you are ready and prepared, he will answer you. And that way, you are trained and equipped for it. You will also appreciate it and not take it for granted.
Other times when God is silent, it may be because you are not approaching him the right way.
You see, God is a father, a mother, and a nurturer, but God is also a King and ruler of the universe! You wouldn't approach a king or queen angrily and disrespectfully and start making demands. You must approach the right way.
Don’t go to God feeling entitled, as if he owes you something. God isn’t obligated to answer anything. He owes humanity nothing. He helps and speaks to us because he is compassionate and merciful, but he owes the world nothing.
You must approach God confidently like you approach your parent but also respectfully like you would approach a King or a Queen! Then you can expect to be heard and given what you ask for.
2. Other Things Aren’t Right
The will of God doesn't just depend on you. It depends on many other factors. It depends on the synergy of many other people.
Sometimes when God is silent, it's not about you but other factors and other people. He could be working on the other factors, rearranging the people that are involved in your destiny and the conditions that will help you fulfill your destiny.
He may be fixing things that are broken, preparing things that are to serve you, and fighting unseen battles. He may be averting certain dangers that may befall you on your way to fulfilling your destiny.
If you're a child of God, you have an adversary. Your adversary is the enemy of your father. When the adversary can't stop your destiny, he places obstacles and roadblocks on your path that is to prevent you from easily fulfilling that destiny. God, seeing that, suspends his will to remove and deal with those obstacles that will be waiting for you in the future.
How unfortunate it would be if angels were fighting battles you can't see and you're in the comfort of your home whining and complaining that God is taking too long.
Always remember that mantles trigger battles.
Every time you don’t understand God and why he's taking so long, give thanks because you have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes.
3. You Don’t Want to Hear it
Other times, you don’t hear God because you don’t want to hear what God is saying. You may be expecting a yes or a no, but God says the opposite and you refuse to hear it.
We often say God is silent when we don't like the answer we received.
Humans look at outward appearances. God looks at the heart. You may be interested in a person whose heart God is not interested in because of what he found in it. When God says no concerning that person if you want to hear a yes, you will choose to hear what you want to hear. You will believe you heard nothing just so you can keep holding on.
Some other times, God does not speak because you asked with the wrong motives.
God doesn’t care that you’re broken. He cares about your heart and your intent. He judges your motives. When you ask something with the wrong motives or with the wrong intentions, God will be silent.
God is not a man. His ways are different, and his mind is so advanced he sees into the future. God knows things before you know them. God’s no may be saving you from a life of misery. You must be willing to trust that he has your back.
Without trust, any relationship will suffer.
When it feels like God refuses to speak, be patient and learn how to live in the silence of God.
Patience is a powerful fruit of the spirit that can help you cultivate the kindness and compassion you will need through your pain so that you can sustain certain things when they finally arrive. When things come too easily, there is no memory bank of pain to remind you to take good care of it. You would be careless of many great things if they were given prematurely.
God may be silent now but when you're patient and he finally speaks to end your season of waiting, it won't be a still small voice you will struggle to discern. He speaks like he is right next to you — loud and clear — then it would be impossible to doubt that God has spoken.
God’s silence is devastating, but it isn't without purpose. Give thanks for what God is doing, even when you can't see it.
