3 Time Tested Things You Need to Actually Achieve Your Goals This Year
Plans and habits won’t help unless you do these things!
The point of setting goals is to achieve something new.
Personal and professional aspirations are what drive your personal development.
Your goals represent a new version of yourself that you desire to be.
Even though I have the best intentions, year after year, there are always goals that I don’t achieve.
Based on evaluating previous years, I came to the conclusion:
Goal achievement is easier when you effectively plan your goals.
Planning gives you a blueprint to follow:
You know what you want to achieve;
You know what your objectives are and what you need to do;
You brainstormed all the tasks and actions that need to be done.
But your planning is useless without these 3 things.
Commitment
“Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans.” — Peter Drucker
First, you need to commit to achieving each goal you set.
When you can eliminate goals that do not inspire or motivate you to work for them, commitment becomes easy; your goals reflect what you really want to achieve.
Your true goals will inspire you to actively pursue them.
The new daily habits won’t feel like the daily grind; you are committed—you're ready to take action and become a better version of yourself!
Action
“Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work.” — Peter Drucker
Next, you need to actively work towards your goals.
When you have a plan, there is no question about what you need to do because you have an outline that takes you from start to finish.
Your plan—your blueprint—outlines the new habits and actions that you need to start in order to achieve your goals.
You’re ready; you know what to do; all you need to do is take action!
Consistency
Once you take action, all you need to do that on a daily basis — consistency is key!
“Consistency, repetition, no decision — this was the way to develop the ease of a true habit.” — Gretchen Rubin
Consistent action is how you create habits. These habits become your routine, no decision is necessary.
When you make the tasks and actions you outline in your blueprint into daily habits, this results in you achieving your goals.
Final Words
While goal planning has been a big focus for me this year, it is meaningless without commitment and taking action, with consistency, on my new habits, so I can become that better version of myself in 2024.
“People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their futures.”
— F. Matthias Alexander
Want to be a better version of yourself too? Planning is necessary, but then commit to taking consistent action on those plans!
