3 Myths About Medium That Every Beginner Writer Should Know

It’s time to know the real Medium

For writing your heart out, Medium is a fantastic platform. On Medium, I’ve noticed two different types of writers — one who uses the platform to earn a side income and another who uses it to spread their ideas. The fact that Medium often undergoes changes makes it challenging for writers to understand the platform and its algorithms. I’ve been writing on this site for the past two years, and I’m presenting this piece based on my experiences.

Here are a few myths that new authors should be aware of before they begin their Medium writing adventure.

(1) Followers Don’t Guarantee More Reads

To enter the MPP ( Medium Partner Program), Medium requires that users have 100 followers. I am aware that Medium followers are crucial. On the other hand, if you think that having more followers will boost your likelihood of receiving more reads and views, you can be mistaken because not all followers will read your content.

Even one of the most well-known authors on Medium Tim Denning, who has 295k followers, noted in one of his posts that just because you have more followers doesn’t guarantee that every story you publish will go viral.

(2) Popular Publications Won’t Get You More Views

I continued posting with publishers when I first started using Medium because I believed that doing so would attract more readers than self-publishing. While I don’t discount publications as a source of views, pieces published independently can also do well.

My statement is that an article’s quality ultimately matters the most. Therefore, spend more time writing your article than choosing the publication where it will receive the most views.

(3) Your Every Story Isn’t Going To Be Liked By Your Audience

Like everyone else, I had no followers when I first started. Your audience will grow as you write. Everybody has a unique sense of taste. Just as you can’t always please everyone, either. You can’t always assume that your viewers will enjoy every narrative you produce as a writer. They may be disappointed by some of your stories, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue to write.

If some readers don’t like your article, that’s fine. It doesn’t imply you’re not enough or a bad writer if some readers don’t enjoy your article. We all have self-doubt as writers, but don’t let it keep you from creating. Go on writing.

Despite all of this, I am still on Medium because it inspires me to continue using this platform in more ways than one. Let’s now discuss the advantages of this platform.

Things That I Like About Medium

(1) It’s a Great Way to Make Connections

I used to believe that no one else thinks the way I do. On the other hand, I want to thank Medium for assisting me in meeting others who share my interests. One of the main motives for my presence on Medium is this. The users of this platform are incredible. Even when I couldn’t write, they supported me and helped me. I appreciate every one of my connections on Medium for supporting me recently as I was going through some difficult moments. All of your good wishes enabled me to heal quickly.

(2) Medium is a Good Place to Build Your Readership

I used a number of writing sites when I was just starting out and seeking a place to publish my work. In addition, I built a WordPress blog. Nobody, however, can compete with Medium because it already has a large following. You only need to deliver the best content, and readers will be waiting to read it.

You are not required to discover readers for your content. So, in my opinion, Medium is the best writing site for growing your readership among other platforms.

(3) It Gives Me a Chance to Be Authentic by Sharing My Writing

I believe that as I write more, I improve as a person. For me, writing is a really personal thing. Writing about myself and my own experiences is something I enjoy doing. Who I am as a person is reflected in what I write. I have the opportunity to write authentically on Medium.
