3 Mistakes I Made As A New Writer
“Take chances, make mistakes. That’s how you grow.” — Mary Tyler Moore
Hello friend,
As a new writer, you have lots of options to write and make an impact. While you try to explore all the options, it can be time-consuming.
Also it can make you confused when a lot of information is available online on how to write as a first-time writer.
I made stupid mistakes because I didn’t know any better and all my hard work has wasted. In the end, you lose motivation and start all over again.
Has that ever happened to you?
Today, we’ll discuss the three mistakes I made in when while writing online.
“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself.” — Eleanor Roosevelt
1- Writing whenever you like:
For me of course, it started as a fun hobby.
But if you want to make it your side hustle and work your way into it. It needs serious dedication and focus. like you do with your 9–5 or anything important.
If you are looking to make an impact you have to post almost every day before people start noticing you.
Online feed is getting updated every second, your content can get lost in the sea.
What to do:
- Create a schedule to post your content
- Share it on various online platform
- Tag and add references
2- Exploring before settling down to 2–3 niche topics
It’s okay to write on different topics in the beginning. But if you want to attract a niche audience, you need to figure out what topic(s) you want to write about.
And how you can attract readers from that pool.
It also can give you expert-level status when you learn and research certain specific topics.
What to do:
- Focus on 2–3 topics where you already have some knowledge
- Use popular hash tags to write
- Sequence your content based so that it can cater to a variety of readers from beginner to expert level
“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”
3- Curate content from popular creators in your niche
This is the third mistake I made when I was completely focusing only on my content and not interacting with other writers content.
If you already have a niche, one search can give you who has already made it in that topic and whom most people follow.
What to do:
- Get 2–3 names who are popular
- Find which platform they are most active and publish their content
- If you find their articles, posts interesting, comments and share them in your network.
- Reach out to them and ask if they are open to collaborate with you
It’s the easiest way to get noticed and share your content.
Lastly,
Summing up, here are the three mistakes I made as a new writer at the start of my writing journey.
How many of these mistakes were you able to relate to? Do let me know in the comments.
