3 Mindset Shifts That Helped Achieve My Fitness Goals Quickly

And how can you use them

Whenever you last wanted to achieve a fitness goal, was it radical like:

  • losing 50 lbs
  • getting abs
  • getting a bigger behind

I’ve been in this place multiple times. I’ve been on the heavier side all my life and wanted to lose weight so desperately. Not so shockingly, my fitness goal was losing 50 lbs.

Fast forward 6 years,

I have accomplished my aesthetic goals and they no longer matter.

The past year has been the most integral because it’s during this time that I learnt and implemented these mindsets. Prior to that, even when I lost 50 lbs I was so upset about my body.

Today, I have the best body I’ve ever and I’m the happiest that I have ever been with my body. I look at myself and feel awesome, and you can too.

Here’s what helped.

1. Lose weight because you love your body, not because you hate it

What if I told you to paint a figure, but you dislike painting?

Won’t painting feel like a burden to you?

Whereas if you’re somebody who enjoys painting, this task would be enjoyable.

Before I quit social media and the influencer lifestyle for good, I interacted with thousands of my followers who complained about similar issues.

I want to lose weight because I hate my body. What's the quick fix?

I can tell you from personal experience that losing weight because you love your body is a lot more fun! There are so many reasons because losing weight isn’t just about aesthetics but is about achieving a healthier body.

A healthy body results from a healthy lifestyle which has far more benefits than just aesthetics, such as

  • better heart health
  • lower risk of diabetes
  • improved mental health

Pro-Tip

While it’s okay to have aesthetic goals, think of the overall benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

Picture yourself growing old unhealthy vs healthy. Picture how an active lifestyle will lead to a healthier old age.

When we link our superficial goals to something larger, it helps us achieve them with a lot more motivation and joy.

2. Nature doesn’t harm you

When I was a child, summer holidays were all about mango season. We ate mangoes after every meal for the entire season. Those two months were my favourite!

Today, I know people who don’t want to eat mangoes because they are fattening and have too much sugar. People are also excluding grapes, sapota, bananas, and apple out of their diet because they’re labelled as fatty foods.

All fruits and vegetables are wonderful for you.

Our nature has so much goodness to offer us, we should relish it while we can. Fruits are filled with abundant benefits for your body!

It’s sad to see many exclude fruits out of their diet when they have lots of benefits such as:

  • They contain essential nutrients like potassium, vitamin C and folate
  • They help maintain blood pressure
  • They are high in fibre, which is good for your gut and helps lower cholesterol levels
  • Reduce the risk of heart disease
  • Can reduce the risk of certain types of cancers

Pro-Tip

Incorporating fruits with your breakfast and a portion of vegetables with your other large meals help your body immensely. Once you get used to this, you could incorporate them in your snacks too, e.g. cucumber and beetroot are excellent with hummus.

3. No food is good or bad

My cousin told me she’s on keto and won’t be eating any carbs for a month. Carbs are the fuel for your brain, they provide you with energy to go on with your day.

Food is food, not good or bad. The purpose of food is to provide your body with energy and nourish it.

Yes, there is

But unhealthy food does not mean its bad food.

I would have never lost weight without chocolate.

The only difference is instead of eating an entire bar of chocolate every other day I ate 1–2 pieces whenever I craved it.

Pro-Tip

Moderation is the key — Eating in moderation also trumps cravings.

While you can eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, you can limit your junk.

  • Share a pastry instead of eating an entire pastry
  • Save the burger for a day out with loved ones instead of ordering it in to escape cooking
  • Eat a bit of what you crave often instead of overeating on a single day

Moderation also makes you enjoy junk a lot more!

Takeaways

Mindset shifts can help us achieve our goals with a better strategy and spirit. Here are some mindset shifts which can help you:

  1. Lose weight because you love your body, not because you hate it.
  2. Know that nature doesn’t harm you, eat a lot of fruits and veggies.
  3. Food is not good or bad, you can monitor the consumption of junk food to remain healthy and also enjoy!
