3 Hidden New Features in Canva — 90% Will Blow Your Mind
Boost your design experience with these new features.

It’s a fact. People love Canva above most other design apps; the free package started the love. The pro account offers sealed the deal.
PS. This article got inspired by the love received from this post:
Anyway. Many people want improvements to the software. But when it happens, few notice the changes. The designers always tuck the new icons in low-key areas to keep the dashboard neat and spacious.
So, you could be under using the versatility of your design app. Here’s a trick — to find new updates fast. Use the templates. All the recent design templates include one or two new features or elements.
Here are 3 fantastic features I learned lately and can’t stop using.
1. Save time editing files for free
Canva is coming for everybody. Even sites like Adobe DC and online pdf tools.
Rather than use my time to Google “online pdf editor” and pick a search result. I open Canva to upload my file for editing.
Then, head over to the dashboard to change any detail for free. I bet you did not see the subtle update to your profile. I did not notice it until recently.
Your Canva home page has a search bar. Click the icon to upload your pdf file.

2. Did you miss this red button?
You could have been so focused on what you wanted to create, you never looked left.
On the home page, at the lower end of the left toolbar, is a tool called Discover apps. Here you can find all your Canva app integration options.
It’s a pretty neat feature. It saves you from opening dozens of tabs. I love it, and you could try it. When you open your canvas to design, these integrations are on the left. At the very end, under the “More” tab.

3. No DIYing. You can now automate.
You have it so easy now.
First-timers had to put shapes behind their words to create contrast.
That technique is an old tale. Now. You can go to “Effects” and choose the “Background” style. And the customization pull bars do all the change:
- the roundness
- the spread
- the transparency
- the color

Beware! Most design edits have shortcuts. So, if you get frustrated with how long it takes to edit one image. You might not yet know the shortcut.
