3 Harsh Truths That Will Change The Way You Go About Your Life

Most people don’t like to hear these truths

1. You're Not That Important

Remember the time you fell in front of everybody? Or the time you did a bad thing, and the news got out? Or when something happened to you and people were staring and talking about you? You’d never been embarrassed, and you were sure people would never ever forget the incident. You were sure they would talk about it for the rest of your life.

Sure, people would talk about it for the rest of your life if you were that important, but the harsh truth is that you aren’t that important.

You see, we play a very minor role in people’s lives.

When bad things happen, most people dwell on it for days, replaying scenarios in their heads, worried about what other people are thinking about it but the truth is that other people are so wrapped up in their own lives that they don’t go home thinking about you.

You weren't that important, and that's why they forgot all about the incident the next day.

People have their own stuff to worry about. They have enough worries of their own.

When something you think is bad happens to you, don't beat yourself up worried people are talking or thinking about it when they're not. People have their own stuff going on.

Stop worrying so much about what people think or have to say. Stop worrying about what they are thinking about you. They are not thinking about you at all, and that's the harsh truth.

The only one that's thinking about you is you because you are important to yourself.

Stop worrying about people who aren't worried about you.

2. You Always Have a Choice

Bad things happen to us, but were not simply victims of external forces. You have the power of choice. In most situations, you get to decide how you respond.

If someone keeps hitting you, you wouldn't just stand there and allow them to hit you, thinking you have no choice. You would remove yourself from there or you would hit them back.

You aren't a victim.

You always have a choice, and you are the only one who decides how others treat you.

If someone shows you over and over again that they do not care about you and your well-being, you have the choice to walk away and if you choose to stay, that is your choice.

If they keep disrespecting you, you have the choice to tolerate it or choose to respect yourself. If you command respect, you will be respected. If you act like a doormat, then you give people no choice but to walk all over you.

How others treat you is based on what you allow.

You always have a choice, and you are the only one who decides how others treat you.

3. Your Thoughts Create Your Feelings

You don't feel a certain way about a thing itself. Things are always neutral. They're neither good nor bad. They become good or bad because you assign meaning to them.

You feel a certain way about something because of your perception of that thing. You feel a certain way because you thought a certain thought, which then led you to feel a certain feeling.

In other words, your thoughts are the only thing that is causing you to feel the way you feel about a certain person, place, or thing. And it is your feelings that determine the way you are going to act.

It is your thoughts that are creating your reality and this is a dirty little secret of the universe. If you want to change reality, start with your thoughts.

Your thoughts create how you feel, which determines how you behave, which then creates your reality.

Taking ownership of your life is the most empowering thing you can do for yourself. No matter the cards life has dealt you, taking responsibility will be the thing that gets you out.

If you're unhappy with the way your life is unfolding, you are the only one who can change it.

If you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, you can either allow it to make your whole day go wrong or you can take control and do what's necessary to turn your day around.

Nobody is responsible for your life but you and no one is coming to save you. Saving you is your responsibility.

The sooner you take responsibility for your life and create your own circumstances, the sooner you'll take steps to create a life that feels good for you.

Most people don't like to hear these harsh truths, but it's the harshest of truths that eventually set you free of the things that hold you back.
