3 Amazing Apps you can use to Edit Your Photos Right From Your Phone

Photo by Brett Jordan on Unsplash

If you’ve been doing photography for a while now, you may understand the importance of editing your photos.

You will have no doubt heard all about shadows, contrast, highlights and exposure.

But, what if you want to just edit some quick snaps taken on your phone?

Thankfully you don’t have to have an expensive and fancy PC with an Adobe subscription to make some quick edits to your photos on the go.

In this article, I will show you 3 amazing apps you can use to edit your photos right from your phone.

Ready to start editing some amazing photos right from your phone? Let’s get into it!

App #1: Google Snapseed

First up we have one of my favourite apps for photo editing.

Snapseed is an amazing free photo editing app made by none other than Google.

As evidenced by the plethora of useful features, Google has no doubt transplanted some of its processing smarts from the Pixel series’ camera over into this app.

The interface is simple, clean and gets you to the features you need in a flash.

Open up the app, select your photo and bam, you are straight into the editing experience.

From here you will be greeted with a wide range of editing options. The main features I recommend you take a look at are the tone curve tool and the general exposure tools.

These tools allow you to edit the fundamentals of your photos to achieve quick results.

As a rule of thumb, you should decrease the highlights and lift the shadows to get more contrast into your images. Just remember not to overdo it. I would also recommend you add a little contrast and saturation to make your photos pop.

But that is all I would suggest you do.

After all, you are not looking to do all of the edits the pros do. All you are looking for is a simple way to liven up some snaps of friends, family and maybe your pets.

If you do want to take your editing game to the next level however, Google Snapseed has the flexibility to allow you to do this.

The app supports RAW editing support and you can use the tone curve to make even more precise edits.

You can also use the app to selectively edit certain parts of your image.

For example, you can decrease the highlights on your clouds without making any adjustments to the rest of your image.

All-in-all, this is a great app for both quick edits and a more serious editing workflow.

The app is free and it is available for both Android and IOS and you will have a great time using it.

App #2: Adobe Lightroom Mobile

My goodness, this app has blown me away.

Adobe Lightroom Mobile is an app you should definitely have in your mobile editing arsenal.

Think of this app as having the full power of desktop Lightroom, except you can edit your pictures straight from your phone.

This app has almost the exact same powerful features you see on the desktop version and it can even shoot RAW photos directly from the app on compatible phones.

This is because it has a built-in camera, so you can adjust key settings like the aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed.

This can make a huge difference to the quality of your photos, particularly if you like to shoot on your phone at nighttime.

When you first open the app and you enter the editing page, you are greeted with an array of sliders.

For those of you who are familiar with Adobe Lightroom on the desktop, you will have access to all of the key features at easy reach.

These include using the sliders to adjust your highlights, shadows, contrast and exposure.

You can also adjust the hue, saturation and luminance of your colours, too.

All of this is FREE, so you do not need to pay for an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.

If you do pay for the subscription though, you do get a few extra features.

These include being able to remove objects, straighten horizons and backup your photos to Adobe’s cloud storage service.

With the exception of these features, the app is packed full of high-end and detailed sliders that give you full control over the look and feel of your images.

Adobe Lightroom is a great app to get to edit your snaps on the go, particularly if you want to take your editing game up a notch.

App #3: Lens Distortions

Finally, the third app is less of a must-have. It is handy to download but you may not wish to download it.

It depends on your personal preferences and how you want to edit your photos and make them look.

This app comes with free lighting effects and light bursts.

For example, you could place a golden light burst in the top left corner of your picture where the sun is.

This could give the image a warmer feeling or a cooler feeling if you inserted a blue streak instead.

Again, as I mentioned before this may not be in your personal preferences and you may feel that it is better off if you do not use streaks of lighting effects in your image.

The option is there if you wish to do so.

You can also pay a little extra to get some premium light streaks too, though I am not sure if this is really worth it.

In conclusion, this app is a decent free editor to have if you are obsessed with light streaks but I strongly recommend you try out the other 2 apps I suggested if you want to take your photo editing up a notch.

What are your thoughts on this? Have you used these apps before? Give me a shout in the responses below and I’ll gladly get back to you.
