Are you looking for the right places to submit your article and other writing? This article contains 20 different markets that pay at least 100.00 (sometimes much more). This is partially a recap article of some markets that I have shared before for my longtime readers. However, don’t worry — I did not forget about you. I included 5 markets not found in any of my other articles — so there are new markets for you here as well!

Adbusters

Details/Website

Looking For: Nonfiction, sometimes they have special issues that also welcome fiction and poetry.

Payment: $100.00 per published page for unsolicited manuscripts. For assigned articles, 0.50 cents a word.

Adbusters Is a Canadian activist magazine. It is not-for-profit and reader-supported. This magazine primarily focuses on the erosion of the environment due to commercialism.

If this is also a concern of yours, you can pitch articles for history, people, current events, global issues, and systematic change. They especially want opinion pieces, essays, exposes, and interviews.

Ambassador Magazine

Ambassador Magazine is an Italian American publication that promotes the lifestyles and experiences of Italian Americans. They are looking for 800–1,500 words articles, and the payment is $300.00. If the feature includes photos, the payment for the piece is $350.00.

They want articles about Italians, famous or not, doing extraordinary things. These could include interviews, essays, reviews, interviews, and travel pieces. I could not locate an online guidelines page, but you can pitch the director of publications and editor, Don Oldenburg. You can also request guidelines. The email is [email protected].

The American Gardner

Payment: $150.00–600.00.

If you are a gardener or love the outdoors, you might be interested in writing for the American Gardner. This is a publication that is 70% freelance written.

They are looking for both columns and feature articles. The columns are between 600–1,000 words and pay $150.00–200.00.

Feature articles are 1,500–2,500 words, and the payment is $300.00–600.00. They want people to query with clips and a summary of your qualifications.

Backpacker

Payment: $300.00–5.000.00. (per online reports, they pay $0.40–1.00 a word)

Backpacker is an online travel magazine. They are looking for nonfiction articles between 1,500–5,000 words. Typically these articles are about backpacking gear, destinations, backpacker personality, and backpacker skills.

They also have several different columns that you can pitch for. I highly recommend checking out the guidelines page as it is very detailed.

Blade Magazine

Payment: $150.00–300.00.

Blade Magazine is a publication focused on knives, including collectible knives, military, hunting, pocket knives, and hi-tech knives. They are looking for technical, interviews, how-to, historical, photo features, and new products.

The feature articles are 700–1,400 words and pay $150.00–300.00. They also are looking for columns and fillers. These are only 50–200 words and pay $25.00–50.00.

Chess Life

Looking For: Nonfiction

Payment: $100.00 Per Printed Page

If you love chess, this is the best publication for you. The publication is the official magazine for the US Federation of chess. They pay $100.00 per printed page (800–1000 words). The max length of an article is 3,000 words.

Chess Life wants potential writers to query with published clips. They are looking for interviews, general interest, historical, humor, technical, and photo features. I could not locate a guidelines page online. However, you can pitch the editor, Danial Lucas, at [email protected].

Cutting Tool Engineering

Looking For: Nonfiction

Payment: $300.00–4,000.00

If you have specialized knowledge in cutting or grinding or medal to produce parts (or you know people who do that you can interview for articles), this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

They are looking for 600–2,000 words articles, and they pay between $0.50–1.00 a word. They require photos for the article. New writers are welcomed.

Early American Life Magazine

Early American Life is a magazine that focuses on the founding of The United States of America through the mid-1800s. This publication is 60% freelance written.

Fanbyte is a gaming website, and they are looking for opinions and features. They will also consider community reporting, guides, previews, and interviews. They want to be pitched your great idea, do not send full manuscripts.

Pay rates vary but typically, listicles start at $150.00, essays and opinions pay about $200.00, and features pay around $250.00.

Flight Journal

Flight Journal pays $600.00, and most of their stories are between 2,500 to 3,000 words. They are also looking for photo features, interviews, personal experience, and technical.

Gourmet Traveller Wine

Gourmet Traveller Wine is an Australian wine magazine. They are looking for articles on winemakers, wine travel, and wine regions. The articles they are looking for are 250 to 2,500 words, and they pay between $0.50–0.70 a word.

The Magazine Antiques

OK! Magazine is a celebrity magazine, so they look for photo features and articles about celebrities. They do not accept any work that puts stars in a bad light. The Robb Report is looking for product reviews and travel articles. They are a monthly magazine which is dedicated to upscale and luxury items. It is 60% freelance written.

Self Magazine

Looking For: Nonfiction

Payment: $300.00–10,000.00 (1.00–2.00 per word)

Self Magazine is a very large Conde Nest publication — it has a circulation of 1.3 million. The audience of this magazine is 20–45-year-old women. They are focused on finance, beauty, health, nutrition, fitness, style, and happiness.

They pay $1.00–2.00 per word for articles 1,500–5,000 words in length. They pay the same per word price for columns. However, they are only 300–1,000 words (so payment is $300.00–2,000.00). Their guidelines are very detailed, including samples of previously published articles.

The Sun

Looking For: Nonfiction, Poetry, and Fiction

Payment: $100.00–2,000.00

The Sun is 90% freelance written, so they are used to reading pitches and manuscripts from both new and established writers. They accept nonfiction, fiction, and poetry.

They are looking for no more than 7,000 words for nonfiction, and payment is $300.00–2,000.00 plus a 1-year subscription to their magazine. They want personal essays on cultural, political, or philosophical topics, personal experiences, interviews, and memoirs.

For fiction, they will consider all non-genre fiction up to 7,000 words. Payment is $300.00–2,000.00 plus a 1-year subscription to their magazine.

For poetry, they want free verse, prefer unpublished works, and pay $100.00–250.00 plus a 1-year subscription to their magazine.

Toastmasters

Payment: $200.00–650.00

Toastmasters is a magazine coving communications, leadership, and public relations. They pay $200.00–650.00 for articles between 650–1,800 words. They are primarily looking for articles covering public speaking, impromptu speaking, persuasive speeches, humorous speech, and storytelling. Toastmasters is also open to profile pieces and interviews of famous international speakers or leaders.

Young Rider

Looking For: Nonfiction and Fiction

Payment: $150.00–200.00

Young Rider is a print and online magazine for young teens interested in horses. They are looking for both fiction and nonfiction. Young Rider accepts simultaneous submissions and pays writers on assignments.

For nonfiction, the payment is $200.00. They are looking for a word count of about 800. They are specifically interested in stories about horseriding, horse-related career paths, famous equestrians, celebrity horses, how-to articles, DIY projects, and interactive articles. Nonfiction stories should also include 4–5 photos.

They pay $150.00 for stories between 800–1,000 words for fiction. Fiction should be written in the third person and appeal to children 13 years of age. It should be humorous, have conflict, and have a well-defined plot.
