Finding the perfect websites to pitch your stories can be challenging, and honestly, exhausting. There are a lot of markets out there — but they vary in topic, payment, and difficulty of breaking in. If you are not sure you know what you want to write about, these markets cover very popular topics that you probably already know something about or have something to say. Cottage Life is a print magazine and a website based in Ontario, Canada. They publish 6 print issues a year and daily articles on the website. They offer writers a kill fee and a byline. The kill fee is usually between 50% — 100%.
Nonfiction: This is a journalistic website and publication with a slant on service. Many of their articles include interviews and sources; these are not fluff pieces. The length depends on the department. For instance, front-of-the-book items may only be 400 words, regular articles are typically 1,000–1,8000 words, and major features are 1.500–3,000 words.
They cover cottage country, cottage life, personal cottage experiences, political, financial, and environmental topics directly related to staying in a cottage or owning one. The website also has lighter stories such as DIY articles about the outdoors and timely pieces.

Bon Appetit is an online website and print magazine that is all about food — they publish everything from singular recipes to restaurant reviews. If you love food and are great at writing on this subject or developing recipes, this could be a fabulous writing market for you!

Defector is an employee-owned culture and sports website. It was created by former staffers of Deadspin. They write about sports, politics, entertainment, and anything interesting or newsworthy. It is a subscription-based business.
Nonfiction: They are interested in the things they publish (sports and entertainment) and interesting things that they have not come across — think culture that grabs the reader’s attention and won’t let go, crazy news stories, or weird things happening online right now.
