A Love Story That Took Me 5 Minutes to Write Went Viral and I’m Stoked!
Who knew so many people would be interested in knowing who my secret Medium crush is?
I am a more in-the-moment style writer, probably because I was a journaler before I came here. The only difference is now I publish my thoughts, my fears, my heartache, and yea, my love life for all the world to see, excuse me, read.
Never in a million years did I expect so many people to be interested in knowing more about the Medium writer I’m crushing after.
There I was thinking it is about me and my secret crush but seems like it’s become something much more especially by looking at the comments section — from speculation about the future wedding to wild guesses about the identity of the writer to lots of encouragement, and yea, many guys claiming to be my crush!
I am flattered and blushing here from all the well wishes and positive energy that my readers have sent my way — truly grateful for it and still not sure what I have done to deserve it.
Thank you!
Moving on…According to my readers, the hot contenders are Srini, David Perlmutter, and surprise — Smillew Rahcuef!
Sure, they are my Medium buddies but not the guy I’m crushing on. And unfortunately, he is taken.
What do I do now but pine from afar?
Or maybe it could be a platonic thing? You know like a mutual admiration club. We could connect on all things writing while pretending there are no undercurrents, forget it, more like tsunami waves of attraction?
Because you see, am so thrilled to discover he has unwittingly commented on my viral post about him! And the funny thing is he doesn’t even know this celebration is about him!
That means he is lurking on my posts just as I do on his! (Grins like a Cheshire cat)😻
In her article, this is how Elena describes the strongly vulnerable writer in the following word: “The strongly vulnerable writer is a mixture of candor and independence. It doesn’t need to “play it cool”, because it carries on the high enthusiasm for writing in a way which sidesteps the dangers that playing it cool has traditionally been associated with.”
That is me to the T.
Perhaps this is why I am able to connect with a large number of readers, irrespective of age, race, or educational background.
By that, I’m referring to the human connection and the fact that I don’t pretend to be better or more knowledgeable or adept at having my sh*t together. In other words, I am flesh and blood, not superwoman.
4 interesting facts about my latest viral story
🎈Titles are very, very important. Period.
A title with a great hook can sell a story and I have been witness to that time and time again, both here and on this other platform I write on.
No, I don’t use fancy schmancy analyzers and AI tools — I do it the old-fashioned way and still manage to get the job done. For more info, please check out this short form for my tips.
🎈Shortform stories go viral too and do pretty decently earnings wise
This is my first bona fide viral story in short form. Yes, several of my other short forms have done pretty well but it is more views over weeks and sometimes months.
For example, this one unexpectedly took off months after it was published👇
This one too and again the title sold it for me!
🎈Keep your audience on their toes
It is funny how this one article about my Medium crush led to a spike in my previous articles. Were people deliberately looking for clues or what?😆
I seem to be pretty good at arousing curiosity but you know what? I wouldn’t have had the courage to write about the things I write and experiment with my writing if not for my community.
Every day, I am humbled and amazed by how they turn up to support me and encourage me. It is the fuel that motivates and inspires me — the secret sauce if you will.
So, I show up and share what’s happening in my life in a series of long-form and short-form. And I stay loyal to my community and pubs too.
