$1376.70/Month With ONE Children’s Book? It’s 100% Possible.

Here’s how Jane’s doing it.

You probably know that I’m really into earning passive income from publishing children’s books.

It’s a great side hustle — for sure, and it’s personally put thousands of dollars into my pocket 🎉 💃.

Personally, I really thought you’d have to have a serious catalog of books in order to earn a comfortable living. How wrong I was.

In fact, can you imagine making a living from just ONE book? In today’s case study — that’s exactly what we’re going to be examining. I’m going to be dropping some extremely helpful tools to snipe competition, so please stick around 🤗!

Meet Jane Bexley

Jane Bexley is a prolific children's books author and seems to be doing quite well for herself!

First of all, she writes and illustrates her books by herself — meaning that she doesn’t have huge costs associated with producing her works.

Does that sound intimidating? It doesn’t have to be. For example, here’s a sample page:

Now, this isn’t necessarily the most hyper-realistic or detailed drawing. That’s not to say that it’s of poor quality — but it’s something that virtually anyone who puts in the work can achieve.

Here’s the interesting thing:

Jane has a collection of about 12 books (at the time of this writing) that are all centered around the same topic/brand — farting. What can I say, kids seem to really love the topic, and her sales figures sure speak for themselves.

This leads to an avalanche of sales — one books sells another, which sells another and another.

If you can manage to create a character/setting that both kids and parents love — you’ll ALWAYS make money.

Estimating Sales

Now, to get a feel for how much this specific book is making, we can use a handy little tool from TCK Publishing called the BSR to Sales Calculator.

Essentially, it looks at the best seller rank, which is found in the product details section on Amazon:

Putting the figures into the calculator, we get an estimate of 390 sales per month from just this book alone.

Now, of course, not all of the $11.88 is profit. We’ll need another tool, amazon’s royalty calculator, to determine how much Jane is making:

So, 3.53 * 390 = $1376.70/month! How incredible is that?

Keep in mind, that’s just ONE book — she has other more popular titles in her series. Her real revenue could be many multiples higher than this.

But wait….it’s not all profit. After all — I saw that she runs sponsored ads, and it’s hard to determine how much profit she actually takes home at the day.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if she had a fairly healthy margin — after all, she’s been running these ads for months and months.

I really hope this small example of KDP success shows the enormous possibilities of self publishing. In the age of beautifully generated AI art, it doesn’t take a huge amount of time to create and publish wonderful pieces.
