Sometimes you come across a movie that shifts your entire perspective on life. And while I’ve seen several, there is none more poignant, more relevant, and more uncommonly vital than the work of the late Wayne Dyer.

Who was Wayne Dyer?

Dr. Wayne W. Dyer (May 10, 1940 — August 29, 2015), was an internationally renowned author and speaker in the fields of self-development and spiritual growth. Over the four decades of his career, he wrote more than 40 books including The Shift, a New York Times bestseller.

Dr. Dyer was affectionately called “the father of motivation” by his fans. Despite a childhood spent in orphanages and foster homes, he overcame many obstacles to make his dreams come true and spent much of his life showing others how to do the same. His main message was that every person has the potential to live an extraordinary life. What’s more, he argued that it’s possible for every person to manifest their deepest desires if they honor their inner divinity and consciously choose to live from their “Highest Self.” Source

The Shift

I often find myself rewatching Dr. Dyer’s film The Shift because it played a pivotal role in profoundly shifting my mindset.

In the movie, Dr. Dyer talks about how everything can change based on how we look at things. If we shift toward positive thoughts about achieving or manifesting our desires and needs, we can find true happiness and contentment.

The Shift illustrates how change and perception make way for unexpected opportunities when we are open and willing to change.

Here are 12 brilliant quotes from The Shift to help us find contentment right now.

1. “Becoming the observer, you begin to live in process, trusting where our source is taking you. You begin to detach from the outcome. That detachment allows you to stop fighting and allows things to just come to you; you no longer make things happen but allow them to show up. The fight is gone!”

2. “I don’t believe that God is concerned with whether or not we show our love by building magnificent edifices for worship, by attending services, or through practicing rules laid down by religious organizations. It seems to me that if God were to speak to us, the message would simply be to love each other and offer reverence rather than enmity toward all of life.”

3. “You get to a place where you begin to be guided by something greater than yourself. You stop fighting and striving (indeed, the need to expend this type of energy is often a strong indicator that you are not in flow and where you are meant to be) and instead, surrender to your higher purpose and be guided from there, allowing things to happen, trusting in source, focusing on your ‘why’ and letting go of the ‘how’ …”

4. “As Jesus put it, ‘Even the least among you can do all that I have done and even greater things,’ and, ‘Is it not written in your law, “I said, you are gods”?’ (John 10:34).”

5. “Once what you are doing has meaning for you, it is irrelevant whether you’re happy or unhappy. You are content — you are not alone in your spirit — you belong.”

6. “We are all essentially spiritual beings having a temporary human experience. This is our essence. This is where we come from.”

7. “My conclusion about my origination is that I came from spirit, and my true essence is that I am what I came from. I am a divine piece of God. I am first and always a spiritual being inextricably connected to my source of being.”

8. “When approval-seeking is the guiding principle of life, it’s virtually impossible to achieve a loving relationship with another human being.”

9. “As we become one with our source, we begin the realignment process, thinking and contemplating more like God. We gain the wisdom necessary to understand these words written by Thomas Troward: ‘If you contemplate with thoughts that match originating spirit, you have the same power as originating spirit.’ This idea is anathema to the ego. But the wholeness, the oneness, that we truly are, is revealed as we begin trusting the wisdom that created us.”

10. “Is not it interesting that you had everything you needed in the first nine months? Why is that not true for the next 90 years? Because we interfere.”

11. “Synchronicity is like a collaboration with fate. All of that becomes the norm when the EGO (Edge God Out) is no longer the driving force in your life.”

12. “The memory of God comes to the quiet mind. It cannot come where there is conflict; for a mind at war against itself remembers not eternal gentleness … What you remember is a part of you. For you must be as God created you … Let all this madness be undone for you, and turn in peace of the remembrance of God, still shining in your quiet mind.”
