Medium has a 100 comments limit.
There is currently a comments limit of 100 comments per 24 hours on Medium. After you reach your comments limit, your comments will be added as drafts to your stories.
I don’t know about you, but for me, 100 comments in 24 hours are way too little. And you would be surprised at how fast you can reach 100 comments on Medium. Because time flies when you’re having fun.
Comments must be the most important part of building recognition and gaining trust. It also works rather well in attracting targeted followers. But I think Medium should perhaps consider increasing the 100 comments limit.
Therefore I have contacted Medium support, and kindly suggested they consider increasing the 100 comments limit. As always, their response was rather satisfactory. Although I cannot yet confirm that the 100 comments limit will be increased soon.
I decided to contact Medium support.
Medium support got back to me promptly. Right now, as per Medium support response as illustrated below. The 100 comments limit is part of the code.
But Agatha was so kind as to pass the suggestion on to the Medium team for consideration and suggested improvements. So, I guess we will have to wait on that one.

Let’s hope Medium decides to increase the comments limit to at least 200 or 300 comments per day (24 Hours). And trust me when I say, even then some professionals might find it hard to maintain consistency.
Once you start getting recognized, you will invite quite a lot of responses to your comments and Medium posts. In many cases, 100 comments within 24 hours barely cover the response messages to comments on your stories alone.
100 Comments limit and pro writers.
100 Comments in 24 hours might be way too little for pro writers, and those enjoying commenting. A commenting strategy I personally use is to comment on Medium stories related to my own topics or niche.
But then I also comment on all other comments for the particular Medium story. While concentrating on a specific GEO-targeted audience and writers.
Because that is how you build targeted audiences online who are actually interested in your work. Using comments in this way will result in quite a boost in your responses, comments, and claps on Medium.
At the time of writing this article, I had around 76 Medium stories (including this one). With 903 responses and counting. Because I have seen much better growth since I started commenting more and posting less.
But please don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying neglect your Medium story posting. Instead, create a balance between commenting and posting stories on Medium.
Perhaps write and publish Medium stories for 2 days, even just 1 to 2 posts per day. Then spend the third day just commenting and responding to your audience. You will soon see a remarkable spike in views, comments, claps, and followers.
Some stories have more than 100 comments on the particular story. Making it currently impossible to respond to all other story comments. This way, you might just miss a few people who could actually use your help.
In my opinion, I think 100 comments per 24 hours is not enough for pro writers. But I do understand that this is perhaps done to try and limit spam and duplicate comments.
Not everyone takes the time to comment and offer quality, sadly many people are just aiming at pushing quantity over quality. When will they ever learn that quality beats quantity any day?
Do we talk or write too much?
I am pretty sure I’m not the only writer “struggling” with writing short-form content (less than 1200 words). Once inspiration starts flowing there’s no stopping me.
Just the other day I did a post to introduce myself and planned to keep it “sweet and short”. It ended up as a 2000-plus-word article…lol! I have the same “problem” with commenting.
As mentioned earlier, I have way more responses (comments, shares, and claps) in comparison to the number of Medium stories. Personally, I like turning comments into actual conversations. Not just ending with a comment.
Perhaps that is why I find the 100 comments limit a bit challenging. Because one comment usually turns into a couple of follow-up comments.
In my opinion, the key to recognition and trust is to stay active. You can only be “seen” if you’re present, simple as that. And comments must be one of the best ways to do just that.
Building Trust.
Gaining Recognition.
Creating Curiosity.
Getting Known As A Problem Solver.
These all form part of the benefits you can enjoy when you offer value with your comments. And trust me when I say, once you really start engaging your audiences.
You might soon agree that 100 comments may not be enough to reach everyone each day. Especially when it starts getting to multiple comments per profile on Medium.
That however is when you know that your comments are being noticed and appreciated. Always try to turn a comment into a bit of a conversation. That way people will relate to you easier and faster.
Do you agree or disagree?
I for one would much appreciate it if Medium would be so kind as to consider increasing the 100 comments limit for us. Because I would very much like to be able to respond to everyone and not fall behind.
But it is still Medium’s decision, whatever they decide is what we will have to work with. Medium is an awesome platform regardless, it would just be nice to “make the circle bigger” a little faster, right?
That said. With regards to the current 100 comments per 24-hour limit. Do you agree or disagree that increasing the allowed comments might be a good idea? Why or why not?
Kindly leave your response in the comments, I would very much like to hear your opinion. Are 100 comments enough for you personally, or are you also among those who would appreciate a bit more?
