10 Tips on How to Make Money Online ($100-$1000/month or more) Freelancing from Home

In the age of the Internet, there’s many ways that you can make good money working from home or anywhere else remotely, for that matter.

Some ways require no startup money and others you will need to have small, medium, or large investments.

I am sharing some basic tips and information on how to be successful as a freelancer. You really can make money online from home.

So let’s take a look at how you can make money freelancing online.

Earnings from One of My 30-day Freelance Sources: $1,324

My freelance earnings average between $800-$2000 per month mostly from writing and selling new and used items online.

The example below of my earnings in a 30-day timeframe is from one source only (my resume writing service), and does not include money I make from all of my income streams including: Freelance resume writing for another company besides my own, Ebay store, Medium MPP, and Mary Kay sales.

I started the resume writing business about a year and half ago from nothing. I bought a domain name, built a Wix website, and began posting in forums and on social media about the services I offer. I do very little advertising, just sporadically here and there with Google Ads. Since, I started with no traffic and no customers, I now have global customers and good, organic traffic to the website. I have no overhead other than the $35 a month I pay to Wix.com.

You can start freelancing and earn money from home. Here are some tips.

1. Writing / blogging here on Medium
2. Proofreading
3. Resume writing
4. e-Commerce
5. Affiliate marketing
6. Work gigs online
7. Sell photos online

9. Start a YouTube channel
10. Teach English language online

Let’s break these down a bit, shall we?

1. Writing / blogging here on Medium: To make money from writing on here, you’ll need to enroll in the Medium Partner Program, link your Medium account to your debit card, bank account, or Stripe and provide taxpayer information. Then you set preferences to make stories you write on Medium, which places your writing behind the pay wall and makes you eligible to earn money from your writing, based on member engagement.
2. Proofreading: I used to be a proofreader for a couple of proofreading services and it’s a way to make extra money online. I would consistently earn $200-$600 a month proofreading. There are several proofreading services to choose from. You’ll need to pass an assessment and upload your resume when applying.
3. Resume writing: This is what I do. If you have good English and grammar skills, you can quickly learn to write resumes if you do not know how already. I would suggest doing some research on how to write resumes and also visit some resume writing websites and study their samples to get a feel and understanding of how to put together a workable resume. This is what I did to learn how to write effective resumes. I am self-taught. If I can do it, you can too! Then, search for resume writer jobs on Indeed.com or through Google and apply.
4. e-Commerce: You can earn money online by selling new and used items on e-commerce sites like Ebay, Amazon, Etsy, ThreadUp, Shopify, and similar sites. Or make money on T-shirt sites like RushOrderTees or Printful, where you don’t even have to handle inventory. I have made anywhere from $100 to $450 a month just flipping thrift store and yard sale finds on my Ebay store. There’s a ton of information online on how to be profitable with e-commerce.
5. Affiliate marketing: This entails earning commissions for promoting and selling products that are not your own. You can be paid per sale, lead, or click. This can be great way to earn passive income. You will need to join one or more affiliate marketing programs to get started making money.
6. Work gigs online: I’ve done this as well from Upwork.com, Guru.com, and Fiverr.com. You will need to join these sites. With Upwork and Guru, you will place bids on jobs that you are interested in and on Fiverr, you create a profile of what you offer. There are plenty of categories in which you can specialize. I earned between $150-$350 a month on average completing gigs on these sites, working only sporadically.
7. Sell photos online: This is a cool way to make money online, especially if you’re particularly good at photography. You can sell pics online on sites like ShutterStock, iStockPhoto, Photoshelter, and Getty Images, or you can post photos on Pixabay and get donations from people who download your work to use as stock photos.
8. Sell courses online: Do you have a skill that you can teach on subjects like software, programming, startups, productivity, academics, or anything else? Then you can make really good residual money from creating and selling online courses on sites like Udemy.com or sign up to teach on LinkedIn Learning. Online courses are a hot commodity nowadays, as more people are interested in learning skills this way.
9. Start a YouTube channel: This could be a big money maker for someone who is willing to be consistent and post videos and build an audience. A YouTube channel can earn you $0.01 to $0.03 per view, which equals between $3 and $5 per 1000 views, and up to $5,000 for 1,000,000 views in income, generated by AdSense ads, brand sponsorships, and affiliate links.
10. Teach English language online: You can do this even if you do not know the language of the students you would be teaching. You can teach English online, even without a college degree or prior teaching experience, to make extra money online from home. Some sites will require you obtain TEFL certification, though. Sites to check out for teaching English online include Cambly.com, Skimatalk.com, and OpenEnglish.com.

How I like freelancing

I thoroughly enjoy being a freelancer because it’s great having the freedom and autonomy to work whenever I want by making my own schedule. I do not have a “day job” anymore. I am 100% freelancing and earning as much money as I was working a traditional job. I did do some overlapping before deciding to go completely with freelancing though.

My advice

I would just suggest that if you want to become a freelancer, do your due diligence. Google and YouTube are your friends! Anything you want to know, you can find from searching. You will need to have some expertise in whatever it is you want to offer. So, if you don’t already have it, then it is a good idea to teach yourself with the assistance of the wealth of information that you can find on the Internet.
