10 Tips for a Good Start to the Day
We often hear that the way we start our day sets the tone for the rest of it. A positive and energizing morning routine can boost our productivity and enhance our mood.
I don’t know you, but when I don’t start my day correctly, it feels like the day is wasted, even if it’s not true. The way we start our days has a huge impact on our minds.
I’ll give you some tips to start your days off right!
Get Out of Bed as soon as the Alarm Rings
Or better still, wake up without an alarm clock. But I’m not going to recommend that because it’s not applicable to everyone.
Why do you want to put off waking up until later? Normally, your wake-up time isn’t chosen at random. You’ve calculated it so that you get the sleep you need. This means that when the alarm goes off, there’s no reason to go back to sleep.
Then if you start to go back to bed once, you’ll be tempted to do it again, only to get up again after waking up 5 times.
For my part, I used to set several alarm clocks beforehand, spaced about ten minutes apart. But there’s really no logic to it when you think about it…
Try Cold Showers
The famous cliché of the cold shower, which supposedly makes you more productive. In fact, it’s not a cliché at all.
It’s hard enough to get into cold showers, yet the benefits are numerous, especially in the morning just after getting up. A good cold shower wakes you up and energizes you as much as a cup of coffee.
On top of that, since it’s a tough test, you’ll feel very satisfied after you’ve managed to take one. What could be better than starting the day having already accomplished something?
Have a Strong Breakfast
Breakfast is often referred to as the strongest meal of the day. So don’t neglect it and take your time to enjoy your breakfast. For me, I eat 6 times a day, and breakfast is always the most caloric meal.
After an overnight fast, breakfast provides the necessary fuel to kickstart your metabolism and replenish your glucose levels. It provides energy to your body and brain.
Even if you want to lose weight, you still need to eat breakfast. Indeed, studies suggest that regularly eating a healthy breakfast can actually help with weight management. It can prevent overeating later in the day, regulate appetite, and stabilize blood sugar levels.
Exercise
Engaging in physical activity in the morning just after waking up can have a profound impact on your overall well-being.
By starting your day with exercise, you can experience an increase in energy levels and a refreshing boost. The elevated heart rate, improved blood circulation, and the release of endorphins can naturally invigorate your body and mind.
Moreover, morning exercise promotes mental clarity, enhancing your focus and cognitive function throughout the day. It helps sharpen your mental faculties, including memory and overall mental performance, enabling you to approach the day with a clear and alert mind.
Also, once you’ve exercised, you know you have at least made one good thing in the day, so the day will never feel wasted.
Don’t Rush to your Phone
You’ve only just got out of bed, so it would be a shame to start disconnecting from reality already. After all, the phone is too much of a distraction. It prevents you from thinking properly and being creative.
And if you start checking your social networks as soon as you get out of bed, it’s enough to keep you in bed for another hour, scrolling endlessly…
So instead of rushing to your phone, do something that stimulates your creativity or cognitive abilities. This way, you warm up your brain for the day ahead.
Meditate
It can really be beneficial to meditate in the morning.
First, when you meditate just after waking up, your mind is generally fresh and less cluttered with the thoughts and distractions that accumulate throughout the day. This makes it easier to attain a state of mental clarity and focus during your meditation practice.
It can also help you start your day with a calm and relaxed mind, setting a positive tone for the rest of the day.
And it’s also good for productivity as it allows you to have a clear overview of what you need to do in the day, of what is your goal for the day, because you can just think about it without any distractions.
Plan your Day
Just after meditating, you have an idea of what you need to do during the day. The next step is to plan actions to achieve your goal.
Carrying out this planning stage in the morning is a good way to start the day, as it gets you into the swing of things. Personally, I do this the night before, and I have to admit that I sometimes readjust some of the things I planned the night before just after getting up. Simply because I don’t feel they’re right for the day ahead.
At least, by doing this in the morning, you can be a little more precise in planning your actions.
Write Down your Morning Routine
Plan in advance the actions you want to take after getting up and write them down somewhere to remind yourself. This way, you’ll avoid drifting off course, and you’ll be sure to get the day off to a good start if you stick to your morning routine.
On top of that, it will enable you to calculate roughly how long you need to be ready in the morning, so you’ll know what time you need to get up so you don’t feel rushed and start the day stressed.
Then if you know what time you need to get up, it gives you an idea of what time you need to go to bed, so you can adjust your schedule to get all the sleep you need.
Prepare Everything the Day Before
To optimize your morning routine, it’s best to prepare everything that requires a decision the day before. That way, you’re only executing, not deciding, and you start the day with all your mental capacity available.
So the day before, choose the clothes you want to wear the next day, what you want to eat for breakfast, how long you’re going to run and what route you’re going to take, etc…
But I’m not going to ask you to wear the same clothes or eat the same thing every day — I don’t do that myself!
Make your Morning Routine Enjoyable
We mustn’t let getting up become torture. You may feel it becomes so if you integrate a cold shower or an intense sports session.
However, you have to have the right approach and tell yourself that all this allows you to start the day well. These are not things that please at the moment, but once they are accomplished.
So to make it all simpler, you can add things you enjoy to your morning routine. For example, you can listen to music you like while showering, you can use a shower gel that smells good, you can perfume your room, etc…
