It is a dream for a blogger or a content writer on the web to be rewarded by Google by ranking their article on page One.

It is a GOAL which we dream with our open eyes in the daylight. A threshold for performing immensely good.

The traffic generated by ranking on Google is terrific.

Before I started writing on Medium, I have only heard of what it takes and what it is like to be ranked by Google.

Today, i have experienced it.

I have got addicted to my stats just like Covid-19 is addicted to infecting people. We are helpless :)

I am not selfish. I will share the secrets and learnings of ranking on Google with fellow writers and readers.

Let’s unbox the secret recipe.

Behind the curtain

Let’s be honest.

Before writing online, I had started a website — Lyricaltrap.com, in which I just upload the lyrics of retro and trending songs. I did it for 3 months and left.

The learning curve was not heading upwards. Just a copy & paste work. I still don’t know why I started it in the first place.

For promoting my lyrics articles, I used to cross-promote them on Medium.

As Medium has such a big audience and enormous domain authority, I was sure it will help my articles to rank and it did.

This was the article. “15 Best Sites To Download Hindi Mp3 Songs 2020”.

I published it on July 10, 2020, and currently, it has 2K views and still growing.

This shows the views trajectory of the article.

As you can see for the first 2 and half months, the article didn’t got any views or single digit views.

From the last week of September, the views started rolling in — when the article got ranked by Google.

September 23, — 13 views on the article.

For the first time, after the article got published, views touched double digits. From then on, the views never looked down.

This is the October views trajectory. From the last week of October, views touched the 3 digit mark.

At this moment, the article is ranking on Google at page One for first position :)

Total views the article earned= 2K

Views rewarded by Google= 1.91K

I am aware that these views won’t make me any penny. They are not medium members. But, think of the opportunities that knock on your doors because of Medium domain authority. Anything valuable, engaging, informative, no spam will be ranked by Google.

Isn’t it tremendous?

NOTE —

Even after the article getting ranked by Google, it is only witnessing 100–130 views daily because the search volume for the specific keyword is low.

If you are shooting for keywords, with a bigger search volume — make sure to make your article engaging, informative, and valuable for your readers.

Both, Medium and Google will reward your article with greater views.

How can you achieve your spot on Google?

Write for your readers

If you understand this phrase very well, you will be a better writer tomorrow.

The more you will help your readers make their life easy — the more you are rewarded by Google & Medium or anywhere under high heaven you write.

Follow these go to 5 points before writing an article to get ranked by Google —

  1. Medium’s Domain Authority — When you start your own blog, what’s the biggest difficulty you face? Getting initial traction of views? Google not indexing and ranking your article?

Make use of Medium’s DA( Domain Authority ). You have got an enormous audience and tremendous authority from the platform. You just have to write top-notch content. That’s it.

2. Meta-description — This is a second chance, other than the Title to convince a user to click on your site. Providing a summary of your article within 156 words, helps the user to decide if it’s worth spending time reading your article.

Tip — Talk about the solutions of queries in meta-description. It provides a higher Click-through Rate.

3. Formatting — Suppose the user clicks on your Title to read the content. That’s not where the game ends. The content inside should be properly structured. The images should be neatly and properly cited.

Tip — Use bullets and numbers to present informative and important content. Write in short paragraphs — 2–3 lines. Make use of multiple images for better understanding.

4. Internal linking — Make the utmost use of the reader reading your content. Make them aware of the multiple, engaging, and valuable content you have by interlinking them with each other. This increases the page views and average reading time of the article — indicating Google to push it upwards on search results.

5. Keep updating — There’s one thing Google hates the most, Outdated Content. Google strictly prohibits content with outdated facts from ranking on the first page. Even if your article is ranked on Google, keep it updated with the current time. Don’t lag.

Note —

Even if you perform all the above 5 points correctly, your article won’t rank overnight. It takes time for Google to Crawl — Index — Rank your article.

Have patience.

Till then, start working on your other article.

Your takeaway

Let’s summarize what we have learned in this Case Study.

What it takes to rank your article on the biggest search engine — Google with a 94% share of the search market.

  • Dig into the gold mine of Medium’s DA. They have the power and authority needed by Google to rank the article. You provide them with valuable, informative content. It’s a win-win situation.
  • Meta- description — Convince the user to click on your article. Better the meta- description, the higher the chances of getting clicked.
  • Formatting — Retain a user after it landed on your site. Retaining a user is much more easy and valuable rather than acquiring new ones.
  • The Magic Wand — Interlink articles. Shower your readers with top-notch, updated content. Make them smart.
  • Keep an eye on everyone — Your content should be updated. Witness what’s happening all around you and alter the article. It should add value.

This is my first article getting ranked. I am such a newbie in writing.

If I can achieve it, you can too, and far easily and early than me. It’s that simple. You have the potential to rank your article and earn views.

What are you waiting for? Go for your next article and smash it on Google.

Thank you for reading! Have a nice day.
