1,000,000 Impressions on News Break in 24 Hours
I’ve been on News Break for a year. One of my recent stories reached one million impressions in the first 24 hours.

This screenshot is about 3 days after the story published but it did hit 1 million impressions in less than a day.
Here’s what I did to hit one million impressions on my article in under a day.
The anatomy behind a one million impression article on News Break
This is my blueprint…
- Follow (and study) top authors
- Write about trending topics
- Make my articles engaging
Following and studying top authors
It’s not hard to find top authors on the platform.
If you’re a News Break writer, all you do is go to your analytics page, scroll to the bottom and News Break will show you other accounts like you that people are following.
This is what mine looks like…

From here, I’ll peruse each page to have a look at their last six stories or so.
This gives me an idea about the kind of content they write about, their writing style and how they structure their content.
The News Break contributor program is about a year old or so. I was lucky enough to join shortly after their launch. So, these contributors that have over 15K followers since the program started are the cream of the crop.
They are doing something right on the platform to have them amass the large following that they have.
Writing about trending topics
I go to Twitter to find trending topics.
Here, on the righthand side:

And, I try to keep up with the news and media to see what’s going on locally.
To write about something trending and get a lot of impressions and views, you have to put a spin on it.
You don’t want to write the same ol’ story that other publications and writers are putting out.
My formula is kind of like this:
Information A + Local things happening + facts/statistics
It takes some practice but once you get the hang of it, the formula comes easier.
I don’t just write about local news either. I write about lifestyle-based content.
Paying attention to the content insights tab in your dashboard is helpful to see what kind of stories are popular and trending.
It can inspire you and give some good ideas for what kind of content to write.
For example, I saw a trending story about why Costco checks your receipts as you’re leaving the store. From that, I came up with a different Costco-based story that happened to do pretty well in my opinion:

Write engaging articles
I’ve talked about this before.
Use quotes, graphics, media, videos, Twitter embeds, etc.
Use it all!
This will make it interesting for readers who consume your content and keep them on the page longer.
I do all this in every single article.
At a minimum, I’ll have one or more images plus a quote and Twitter embed. I learned this trick by watching successful News Break articles to see how they write their best work.
And, that’s it!
