Zero to Family Hero
Author’s Note

From Zero to Family Hero is book five of my six-book $7 Journey series. From Zero to Family Hero is an account of my real-life experiences in obtaining a four-year college degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I had returned to college after a six-year hiatus, equipped with educational skills rusted beyond use. I started university clueless as to what I was undertaking.
It would do no good to identify the professors who taught me. Many of them have retired. However, the professors mentioned represent the plethora of both good and evil personalities in college-level teaching. Professors are people who have chosen to provide knowledge to adults; they are still people.
I do provide the year of school I was in when each experience happened. I also offer the type of class, as that is essential information associated with the behavior of the professors.
I made some mistakes in my school career. My ignorance of the culture of a four-year university was stunning. There is no need for anyone to repeat my mistakes. The challenge of university set me up for success as an adult. I gained an even better understanding of life as it is, not as the fantasy I wished it to be.
On television, every student was brilliant; every professor was helpful; your finances were great: real-life did not interfere with your studies. People were just people at the University of Illinois; good and bad…most too busy to notice your struggles but some kind-hearted and generous with their time and their advice.
Villains and heroes abound. Enjoy the adventures. From Zero to Family Hero experiences are relatively amusing in hindsight, but let me assure you, they were not funny when I experienced them. It is fortunate that I graduated so that we can both laugh at those experiences now.
