Summary

The context discusses the human condition as a dynamic dominance hierarchy, emphasizing the need for evolution beyond this mindset to avoid a grating, prison-like existence or self-extinction.

Abstract

The text begins with a bold statement, "Zero fucks left to give," setting the tone for a discussion on the inherent nature of humans living in dynamic dominance hierarchies based on constant competition. It highlights the necessity of bickering, posturing, and being beaten in these hierarchies. The context then delves into the concept of humans as combatants at all levels of society, drawing from historical and contemporary examples of conflict, such as between mothers and fathers and federal agents enveloping a Portland protest in tear gas. The author asserts their role as a prosecutor in the Court of All Life on Earth, summoning forth knowledge of the directives of mind created by our lived experiences. The text suggests that our DNA templates, though cruel, once permitted a degree of freedom. The author emphasizes the need for some humans to acknowledge the impact of our actions on all life and on each other, even in mundane activities. The context concludes with a warning that if we do not evolve out of this mindset, life will become unbearable, requiring distractions, or we will organize our own extinction. The author suggests that humans can evolve by creating new minds out of their experiences, unseating the evolutionary reflex of pitting the contents of our minds against each other.

Zero fucks left to give

We are afflicted with macaque mind.

What does that mean?

It means we live in dynamic dominance hierarchies,

based on constant competition

over every damn thing

and a few things more.

We have to bicker.

We have to posture.

We have to beat.

We have to be beaten.

I have zero fucks left to give

with respect to being polite about this,

and stand as just one of billions of prosecutors

in the Court of All Life on Earth

where I summon forth knowledge of the directives of mind

created in us

because we have lived as combatants at all levels of society

including between mothers and fathers,

for as long as we have records.

I pull into living minds

the lived experience of

all lives ever lived during human times.

We can find this in laws and customs,

taboos and rights,

histories and fictions.

We can find echoes of that experience

in the dusty bins of our DNA templates that used to work,

though cruelly,

to permit some degree of freedom

even if it was only for five minutes here and there

before we crowded the Earth with our

unforgiving presence.

The rest of Life needs to see

some of us know what we have done to everything we have touched,

and assuredly what we have done and are doing to each other

to be the only thing that matters

even if it is

just in how I make hot cross buns or you flip a kickstand.

It is an inauspicious time to

operate from such a mind,

but there you are,

this is who we are.

We will either evolve out of this kind of mind

or one of two things will happen:

Life will become grating and prisonlike, requiring distractions of many kinds to endure,

or we will organize our own extinction.

Wait!

We are already doing both.

Is it possible to evolve fast enough to stop both of these trains from

running over us?

Humans create their own minds out of the substance of their experiences,

writ slightly in their living flesh that adapts on the fly

unless prevented from doing so by thoughts and memories.

We can realize this.

We can stop pitting the contents of our minds against each other,

because it is an evolutionary reflex

that we can unseat

by thoughts and the making of new memories.

I suggest we get busy

while we still can.

It will be fun.
