Dear Lord Shiva,

I am writing to you as I wish to understand you. I have heard your followers chant your name all along and talk about the miracles you do. Since I do not believe what I hear so easily, I thought it’s best to write to you, to get to know you personally.

So, at first, I wish to know why do your followers say that they can’t even breathe without chanting your name? Do you reside in their soul?

They say karma is bestowed to them by you. Only you decide their good and evil and as a result, they blindly tread the path you have chosen for them.

It’s believed that your light ignites their universe and dispels their darkness. Is that true Lord Shiva?

For them, you are their sole creator. Their very own Greatest God who is their one and only kind-hearted Lord Shiva — their Abode of Joy. They say - you existed before the universe and even if the world ends its faith in you, you will live on with them being by your side.

All because- be it in moments of good time or devastation, you are the creator of all. You are like their pearl in a shell, that resides within them, their beloved Lord!

I wish to know are they living with the illusion of themselves in your illusionary world?

Since you are their creator and their destroyer too, will you always stand by them and bless them each time when they bow their head in front of you?

The greatest and kindest Lord Shiva with the Abode of Joy, I have even heard them say that the moon resides on your forehead, smeared ashes rest on your arms and you dress in tiger skin, is it so?

You impersonate fierceness but don’t have a thirst for revenge for those who are yours, because the great Ganges river flows from your hair. Is that true?

Lord Shiva, I have heard that you quench the thirsty, water the barren and for this sake of others, you have spent all your life. You are forever giving and seek nothing in return.

You swallow all the worldly poison and distribute nectar solving all feuds, calming the storms.

So the greatest and the most beloved, kind-hearted Lord Shiva, who is the Abode of Joy, tell me one last thing. Your staunch followers say that if one can’t come to you-you come to them.

So God — Will you come and bless me too if your name I deploy?

Tell me, should I too be saying Om Namoh Shivay?

Regards,

Geetika Sethi

I am one person who believes that there is a superpower that rules. But who is that superpower? Is there just one of that or so many as per religions — this question remains forever unanswered, not just for me but for all I suppose?

So just yesterday, while watching a Hindi Bollywood movie based on Lord Shiva’s most revered shrine Kedarnath — a holy pilgrimage, I thought to myself — “ Can I ever become a staunch follower of the lord like millions and millions of others, when I have so many unanswered questions?”

So to fathom what’s next, I decided to write this open letter seeking a reply from the superpower. Now you will wonder how is that possible? Yes, I am wondering too…but as per mythological stories, it’s said that you can’t go to the Lord unless you get that calling. So I guess I shall await my answers and the Lord Shiva’s calling.
