You’re Still Using Toilet Paper?…Gross

Make the switch

This article will discuss the disadvantages of using toilet paper and why you should move to a new way; it will not be graphic, but clearly there will be references to…BUTTS!

I will start with this: The Bidet is the Way.

I have always had a bit of OCD about pooping, especially in a public place. I remember jokes on TV in the 90’s about ‘skidmarks’ and how boys were picked on in locker rooms about having underwear with skidmarks. Once I discovered what skidmarks were, I was appalled.

People just…STOP wiping without knowing, for a fact, that they are fully clean???

This fear, of typical cruel children mockery as well as sanitary concerns, led me to ‘over-wipe’. Still, seeing remnants? Keep wiping.

While this ensured I was clean, it was stressful for the amount of time needed, wasted TP, and potential bleeding. But hey, I was clean!

Eventually, I started to realize, that if, at home, I could quickly shower, do a quick clean up, and move on with my life without the concerns. And about three years ago, this led me to…the Bidet.

This is actually a very common way to clean yourself, but Americans are still on the TP train for some reason. During the Covid crisis that started in February-March 2020, I was working at an Amazon Pantry site and personally saw how vehemently people were fighting over TP. My wife and I did not have that concern.

It took my wife, and then my family (while making jokes here and there)about a year; then, my mom and sister were asking for a bidet and for me to install it for them for Christmas. My entire family and many friends (at least ones we know well enough to discuss bathroom habits with) have a bidet in every bathroom in their house.

Also, you are actively helping the environment by cutting down on the cutting down of trees! You don’t HATE the environment…do you?

I will say, we do still buy TP and have it in the bathrooms. After using the bidet, we use a couple of squares to dry off, and we are good to go. It also helps visitors feel more comfortable if they have yet to be converted. However, we buy considerably less and TP shortages no longer worry us. A Costco pack lasts for months.

Here is the Bidet that we use. (To learn why I use smile.amazon links instead of affiliate links, read my article about how to make Amazon to donate to charities at no cost to you.) It costs less than $30 and takes less than 10 minutes to install to change your life. It only requires one tool and has simple instructions as well, in case you are not handy, like me.

Before you judge or call me gross, etc., I challenge you to try it out. You will feel and be much cleaner than TP could ever get you. Then you will start to encourage those around you to swap as well.

This may seem like an odd request for comments, but participate in the discussion! Do you have a better idea over bidet? If I am wrong, tell me why dry wiping is better. If you try it out, let me know if you like it or have suggestions for the readers.

Pro Tip: Add in a Squatty Potty to fully upgrade your Number 2 game!

Ditch the TP and install a bidet. They are cheap, keep you cleaner, and help the environment!
