A few days ago, I stumbled upon a quote that struck a chord deep within me.

It goes like this: “You’re not stressed because you’re doing too much. You’re stressed because you’re doing too little of what makes you feel alive.” I have no idea who the author is, but whoa, talk about a wake-up call!

It got me thinking about the root cause of stress in our lives and how we tend to overlook the very activities that have the power to infuse us with energy and enthusiasm.

In the hustle and bustle of our daily routines, we often get caught up in the endless to-do lists, deadlines, and obligations. We push ourselves to the brink, thinking that if we just do more, achieve more, and check off more boxes, we’ll finally find relief from the stress that weighs us down.

However, the real secret to finding that relief lies not in doing more, but in doing more of what truly sets our souls on fire.

It’s True — We Often Neglect What Makes Us Feel Joyful And Fulfilled

It’s fascinating how we often sideline the activities that bring us joy and fulfillment, dismissing them as frivolous or nonessential.

We label them as mere hobbies, guilty pleasures, or things we’ll get to “someday.” We become so consumed by our responsibilities and external expectations that we forget to prioritize the very things that nourish our spirits and fuel our vitality.

Imagine for a moment the joy and excitement that bubble up within you when you engage in an activity that truly resonates with your core being.

It could be anything from playing an instrument, gardening, cooking, hiking, writing poetry, or even exploring new cultures through travel.

These activities have the power to transport us to a state of flow, where time seems to melt away, and we’re fully present in the moment. They ignite a spark within us, making us feel alive, inspired, and connected to something greater than ourselves.

So, why do we overlook these energizing activities?

Perhaps we fear that indulging in them will be seen as selfish or unproductive. Maybe we worry that we won’t excel at them or that we won’t have enough time to dedicate to them. But by neglecting what brings us alive, we deny ourselves a vital source of rejuvenation and inner fulfillment.

It’s time to challenge these beliefs and make a conscious decision to prioritize what truly energizes us.

If We Want To Change, We Need To Change Our Mindset First

We Also Need To Focus On Regulating Our Nervous System

These activities can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the “rest and digest” response, which helps counterbalance the effects of stress and promotes relaxation.
