You’re Not Crazy: Disney+ Movies Aren’t Actually Listed in Alphabetical Order
And we were bored enough to find out just how off they are
A special collaboration with the amazing Siarra Brielle Bazler

What is up with Disney’s alphabetization on their streaming service, anyway? Do they put all their brainpower into controlling our collective cultural memory through copyright lobbying and just don’t have enough time left to do a basic, alphabetized list?
I mean, I get it; some of their movies are somehow labeled as “Disney’s [Whatever]” and so they all just get sorted into the D section, but that doesn’t explain why pretty much every letter category starts over half way through.
Anyway, we were bored, so we sat down and wrote out every single movie on Disney+’s “All Movies A-Z” category, at least according to the Roku App (a cursory glance at Disney + in browser collaborates this pitiful display of organization). Mistakes have been starred. Line breaks have been inserted when the alphabetization just gets starts over for no reason.
Feel free to skim to your favorites, if you can find them in this shoddy alphabetization.
Numerals:
10 Things I Hate About You
101 Dalmations
101 Dalmations 2
102 Dalmations
*12 Dates of Christmas (The system isn’t smart enough to put numerals in layman’s order. Even Windows does that.)
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
A:
A Celebration of the Music from Disney/Pixar Coco
A Ring of Endless Light
A Tale of Two Critters (Yes, these first three films have been alphabetized by their article, “a,” rather than relevant, titular metadata)
The Absent-Minded Professor
The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin
The Adventures of Huck Finn
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Aladdin
Alice in Wonderland
Aliens of the Deep
Almost Angels
America’s Heart & Soul
Amy
(Marvel Studios) Ant-Man (You’ll see why this is notated this way in this list later.)
Apollo: Missions to the Moon
The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again
*The Apple Dumpling Gang (Based on how I was taught to alphabetize things, this one should definitely be ordered before the other one.)
Arendelle Castle Yule Log
The Aristocats
Around the World in 80 Days
Atlantis Rising
*Atlantis Milo’s Return (There’s no excuse here.)
(Marvel Studios) Avengers: Endgame
Adventures in Babysitting
True Life Adventures: The African Lion (Based on being housed between Adventures in Babysitting and Aladdin, it is unclear if this title is being categorized by “Adventures” or “African.”)

Alice in Wonderland
Alley Cats Strike!
Annie
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Avalon High
Avatar

Babes in Toyland

*Blackbeard’s Ghost
Bolt
The Boy Who Talked to Badgers

Brother Bear
Brother Bear 2 (Hey! They managed to get this one in the right order.)
A Bug’s Life
**Bad Hair Day
Bambi II
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Before the Flood
Benji: The Hunted (Aside on this one: What the heck? Don’t hunt dogs!)

Cheaper by the Dozen
Cheetah
The Cheetah Girls 2
*The Cheetah Girls
The Christmas Star
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (You might think there’s a mistake coming up somewhere with the Dawn Treader being categorized by the subtitle, but alas, Disney just doesn’t have it.)

Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (The have it figured out for this series)
Coco
Coco in Spanish
The Color of Friendship
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes
The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos

Deep Blue
Descendants
Dianna: In Her Own Words
Diary of a Wimpy Kid

*Dr. Doolittle 2 (“doctor”)

Drain the Great Lakes
Drain the Oceans: WWII

Finding Dory
Finding Nemo
The Finest Hours
Flight of the Navigator
The Flood
Flubber
The Fox and the Hound 2
The Fox and the Hound (Really unclear how sometimes their alphabetizing scheme gets this right and sometimes it doesn’t? Roman numerals vs. numbers doesn’t seem to be the trick.)
Frankenweenie
Freaky Friday
Free Solo
Frozen
Full Court Miracle
Fun and Fancy Free
**Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings Special
Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings Holiday Magic (These two are bizarre because their title formats use the “Disney’s” marker, but they’re alphabetized without it, and then proceed to fail to actually be listed in alphabetical order relative to each other.)
First Kid
Frank and Ollie
Frankenweenie (I feel like I’ve seen this listed before….)
Freaky Friday (This deja vu is getting eerie)
Freaky Friday (Are you kidding me?)
Frenemies
Frozen II (Ah man - Disney split up one of their most popular recent animated films from its early-release sequel? What a shame.)
Fuzzbucket
G:
G-Force
*The Game Plan (Ok, so the alphabetization scheme clearly thinks all spaces and special characters should come before any letters at all. We’re making progress in deciphering it, people.)
Genius
George of the Jungle 2 (>facepalm< Also, Disney seems to only have the sequel, but not the original, Fun times.)
Get a Clue
Glory Road
Go Figure
A Goofy Movie

The Good Dinosaur
Good Luck Charlie: It’s Christmas!
Gotta Kick It Up!
The Great Mouse Detective
The Great Muppet Caper
The Greatest Game Ever Played (Here’s another instance of prioritizing spaces over letters/words as being earlier in the alphabet. There are surely standards about this, but based on the other crimes we’re seeing here, there’s something about their automation that isn’t cutting it.)

Home Alone 3 (Ah, the one without Macaulay Culkin, and the only one Disney has streaming.)
How to Build a Better Boy
The Hunchback of Notre Dame II
I:
*I’ll Be Home for Christmas (L before C? Ok, starting strong, I section)

(Marvel Studios) Iron Man
(Marvel Studios) Iron Man 3 (We seem to have missed something, here)
**Ice Age
Ice Age: The Great Eggscapade (When did Disney start owning these, anyway?)
The Incredible The Story of Dr. Pol (Or maybe The Incredible Dr. Pol: The Story of? We had some trouble with this one and Disney doesn’t provide text-based titles, just images of the posters and some word art. It really isn’t very accessible.)
Inspector Gadget
Inspector Gadget 2
Into the Grand Canyon
Into the Okavango
Invincible
Invisible Sister
Iron Man Hulk: Heroes United (Is this how you read this title out loud?)
Iron Will
J:

Lilo and Stitch
Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch
*The Lion King 1 1/2 (An interesting Lion King to start with)
*The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride (It would logically come after 1.5, just not in release order. I’ll give them that.)
*The Lion King (But then we have this. Why… is this last???)
*The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (We must be going backwards?)
*The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning (Actually, I’ve never heard of this one, so I can’t say.)

Treasure Island
Treasure of Matecumbe
Treasure Planet
Tron
Tru Confessions
Tuck Everlasting
’Twas the Night (Somehow this special character didn’t send this film to the top of the list with 10 Things I Hate About You, so there must be some kind of human oversight, somewhere.)

Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex
Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie
*The Wonderful World of Disney: The Little Mermaid, Live (A note here: “The Wonderful World of Disney” was printed so small that we thought they just really, really had no excuse. I’m still going to view this choice with skepticism because that’s really not part of the title and it makes the show hard to find.)
World’s Greatest Dogs
**Trail of the Panda (What on earth is this title doing down here with the Ws? We checked for other markers and nothing explains its presence here.)

Somehow, you made it to the end of this list. Even if that was by rapid scrolling with occasional skimming, we commend you.
So, what have we learned? A human touch can probably help Disney+ make their ordering system much better, whether that is making sure that they are consistent in labeling their metadata or by double checking what their sorting algorithm spits out. Series should either be categorized by their name or the series title. It shouldn’t just be a crap shoot. Also, Disney+ is not very accessible to low sighted individuals, given the service’s lack of text-based titling. The only way to view titles is by the (frankly tiny) pictures of the movie posters, or (the image of) the title design when you first select a film.
Get on it Disney!
Anyway, thanks for reading. Tune in next time for our in-depth review “Is Disney+’s Alphabetical Order of Star Wars Movies the Ultimate Viewing Order?”
