You’re Embarrassing Me!
A sad day for mom
Dancing in the car Jamming with my kids; halted! You embarrass me!
Does anyone else car-dance?
One of my favorite things about driving is blasting the music, singing, and dancing in the car…I mean, with my feet planted on the ground and one hand on the wheel of course!
In the mornings when I drive my kids to school, after my shot of espresso, it’s music that keeps me awake. We take turns choosing songs as I drop off the kids at their bus stops and schools.
And I jam — it’s my thing!
Oftentimes, I’m still car-dancing when the light turns red, giving the guy next to me a good laugh; but I don’t care! Hopefully, it makes him/her smile. And it keeps me happy, and awake.
But a few days ago, this all came to a screeching halt.
I had just parked at my seven-year-old’s school and was about to walk her in when she said: “Stop! You’re embarrassing me!”
“Stop?” I responded, “Stop what?”
“Dancing,” she said. Then added, “if any of my friends were to walk by when you do that, they wouldn’t want to be my friend anymore!”
“What?” — I shrieked, shocked and devastated, as I broke a little inside.
Aren’t kids supposed to be at least a little bit older before they find you embarrassing?
And so — that was the end of my car-dancing near school grounds, friends, or possibly anyone we might, possibly, potentially, ever know.
And I’m guessing this won’t be the last time I embarrass her. Hopefully, by next time though, I’ll be a little thicker-skinned!
